I don't quite know what to do with myself, after more than 3 decades I'm finally getting a room for reloading. No more setting up my presses on the dining room table, distractions answering the door, tearing it down, finished or not when company arrives.

Now the work starts, my bench is the old dining room table, we picked up a smaller set cause it's just my wife and I now. It's not the 3 in thick butcher block table I was promised when I bought her a kitchen island, but it will work for now, heck it worked for several decades so why change it now, except this would be the best time to build a bench.

The room is 8'x 10' formerly occupied by one of our children, or grandchildren, as the case might have been, it has 1 window that I just bought a 5k BTU air conditioner for so temp controlled, sort of. I'll have to build shelves, have a small bookcase to add in, after it gets emptied of the youngest son's remaining items. That won't take too long though. I'm in the process of figuring out where to put my supplies until the shelves are built, most items are in ammo cans, from 30 cal to 20 mm. I also have to empty out the room of my sisters things that she left with me when she moved to fla. IMG_20210613_182313.jpg

Down here, we'd say you're s***ing in tall cotton.

Got the loader set up, powder, primers, scales...... Set up on bench it will be a process to get everything the way I want it. Definitely need places to store things not in use at the time. I've put most of the ammo boxes under the bench have out what I need to load, probably more, but have 3 calibers to get started on so shelves, extra lighting.... will have to wait.

My GF and I moved into our house about a year and a half ago. She said pick your room for your "man cave". I did, and started getting it set up to reload, chill out, etc....

Eight months ago, she had a brain aneurysim that ruptured. She came home to me six months ago, a bit worse for wear. She still tells me I should spend more time reloading, but I choose to spend the time with her more often than not. Almost thirteen years together and she is still wonderful, and the love of my life, if not a bit feisty sometimes.

It's great that you have a space for yourself, set it up the way you want it, and enjoy it while you can. Life is short, and things happen sometimes to upset the apple cart.

sorry to hear about your wife, when life gives you lemons make lemonade!

After we finally became "Empty Nesters" and we knew the kids would NOT be moving back home I claimed one of the upstairs bedrooms for my reloading. One of the first things I did was change the door knob to one with a keyed lock! For those days that the grandkids show up.

For a bench I recycled a pair of kitchen base cabinets that were being curbed junk. One has 4 drawers and the other has one drawer and shelved cupboard. I built a lowered benchtop between the two cabinets and then small counters on top of the cabinets.. That is my primary reloading bench with the press, then I have 2 other benches also. One has my lead casting stuff and the other is just a general working bench.

Sorry to hear this, I chose family over my own wants, needs as well, wich is why I had to set up and take down so much. Hope everything goes well for the two of you.

I usually don't hide reloading from family, my grandkids like to help out even if it's just pulling the handle on the press. My one grandson also gets to reap the benefits of helping do the reloading when we go to "the gun range" his words.

Don’t let it get turned into storage. :(
