To my surprise the shellplate did not rotate! And when I force it, the plastic flipper on the indexing rod just bent upwards as I try to raise the ram. I notice that the shellplate between the “old” ones and the 15s shellplate was different...help!!!! Did Lee change their shellplate and when?? The one on the left is the “old” shellplate that runs just fine. The 15S shellplate is on the right. Not sure if the new design is the cuase if the press binding...

They changed the design about 10 years ago. I had sold my load master by then and stopped following their improvements. I really wanted to like the load master, it had some very good design ideas, and the price is attractive, but after fighting with it for about 4 years I threw in the towel and bought a different brand of progressive.

But if you're having problems, call lee. They're nice folks.

You don’t have to watch the whole thing, because most of it is not of concern to you but FF to 4:00 and watch until you see the difference in surface finish then move on to 12:30 and see a culprit for the problem you are having.

The meat and potatoes of it is that the new shell plates are thicker than the old ones where they ride on the die cast aluminum post.

If you have used yours enough to wear the post (doesn’t take much) aluminum is displaced down and makes it so the new style binds on it.

Note the line that separates the spot where the old style rides and the shiny part where the new ones have to go.

Thanks for the video. I also got a new reply from Lee Precision. They said that my old shell plate carrier was warped and I should order a new one... don’t know if I should go that route or just modify the old shellplate a bit?

If you get a new one, keep the old one too (for use with the old shell plate). Or you will “warp” the new one with the old shell plate when it wears and you will be back to the same point you are now.

The current carrier still works with the old one, correct?

If you are just going to trash it and try your luck with a new one (as far as using the same carrier with both new and old shell plates), I would see if I could just knock the ridge off and get the one you have to work with both.

Update: Finally got around to fiddling with the press, installed the new shell carrier plate, had to destroy the old one to get the primer lever arm bolt out.(not sure what that was about, bolt didn’t come out as I was unthreaded it out) Okay, it is still binded in the new shellplate! :fire::fire::fire::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss: For the life of me, the press still binds even with the new shellplate carrier install. Should I polish the carrier as shown in the video or call Lee and have they fix it?

Update: So decided to call Lee and they told me that the “old” style carrier won’t work with the new style shell plate. So they have me buy a new updated shell plate carrier. I’ll see how it goes with this. Will update on it when the carrier arrives.

Update: So it was a case of needing to upgrade to a new updated shell carrier. It ran flawlessly for both the new shellplate style and the old style. Can’t wait to load progressively once I get the hang of things. Here’s a vid of me prepping the .25 acp cases:
