Greetings!

Wonderful news from Governor Abbott this afternoon! Officially, HB 1927 Permitless Carry was signed today, but will be also part of a larger bill signing tomorrow.

TSRA is headed down to the signing at the Alamo for the bill signings of :

HB 2622-2A Sanctuary State (Representative Holland),

HB 1927-Permitless Carry (Representative Schaeffer),

HB 1500- 2A Protections during Disasters/States of Emergencies (Representative Hefner),

HB 957-Texas Suppressors (Representative Oliverson),

SB 18-2A Protections during Disasters/States of Emergencies (Senator Creighton)

SB 19- 2A Anti-Discrimination - the state can no longer do business with private businesses who discriminate against the gun industry (Senator Schwertner)

SB 20- The Hotel bill-which requires hotels to allow you to carry concealed directly to your room or coming from your room to you car (Senator Campbell).

SB 550- The LTC holster bill that allows those who wish to carry openly, to choose the holster that suits them best as opposed to current law which requires either a shoulder holster or a belt holster. (Senator Springer)

We are thoroughly delighted that our Governor is signing all of these bills tomorrow.

Thank you again to all of you who worked so hard to get these bills passed. Congratulations to you ALL!

As always, if you have questions or comments, do hit "reply" to this email and it will come straight to my inbox! I am always here for you!

Great to see Texas finally catching up to its neighbor across the Red River. Between Stitt and Abbott, we finally got it right. A great day for all Texans.
Usually I'd take the bait here, but I'll let go of rivalry for the time being! lol Good for Oklahoma too, my brother lives in Edmond and is pretty happy there for a displaced Texan. :)

Ha! I actually let go of the rivalry about 10 years ago. The way our country is going, no sense fighting each other. Besides, we can’t even have a proper “shootout” anymore.

I posted this in another thread but will post again. One best keep or get their LTC in Texas. I'm just guessing but I'm gonna bet there will be a lot of those 30.05 signs going up. LTC holders can ignore this and only have to abide by the .06 and .07 signs. Lots of other benefits and places LTC holders can carry as well.

The site says:
Reciprocity: Texas LTC Out-of-State RecognitionOf primary importance to many people is carrying a handgun for self-defense while traveling to other states. Most states will honor a Texas LTC, and several states have permitless carry. However, if you want to lawfully carry your handgun in the following states, you will be required to have an LTC: Alabama, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, ????, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

That is not true for NYS. NYS does not recognize any other state.

Not sure that's so, and I'm pretty sure it will need an Opinion from the AG's office.

I guess we shall see but I would like to think that the attorneys with Texas Law Shield have done their homework and would not post guidelines that would need legal opinions. My thought is why keep the .07 and .06 signs which deals with a licensed individual when they could have gone one sign covers all .05 to ban carry completely...

Dang if I wasn’t so bloody old think I’d move to Texas.
Florida ain’t so bad though and while one needs a permit and have to keep the piece concealed, unless one has a record the process for carry is a cake walk.
Rhode Island sucks in that respect but the rest isn’t bad and families here.

They probably keep the LTC oriented signs to avoid a mass banning of any type of carrying when the 06 or 07 signs were replaced. That would be a sweet consequence of constitutional carry. OC generated more 06 signs.

However, those thing are just opinions, not actual legal advise.
The Texas AG's office gets thousands of requests for official opinions on laws in Texas, especially right after a Session ends. Which can be as simple as "What is a 'billiards hall?'" Paxton is widely expected to need to get a ruling on resolving HB 1927 and SB 550, since both remove the requirement for shoulder or belt holsters for OC.

SECTION 17. Section 30.05, Penal Code, is amended by adding Subsections (c) and (d-3) and amending Subsections (d) and (f) to read as follows:
(c) A person may provide notice that firearms are prohibited on the property by posting a sign at each entrance to the property that:
(1) includes language that is identical to or substantially similar to the following: "Pursuant to Section 30.05, Penal Code (criminal trespass), a person may not enter this property with a firearm";
(2) includes the language described by Subdivision (1) in both English and Spanish;
(3) appears in contrasting colors with block letters at least one inch in height; and
(4) is displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public.
