I have a guy who is interested in my Rem 700 and I need value opinions.

Details are: Made in 1967 .30-'06 BDL
No rust; overall very good condition.
I purchased it from an older man back in 1989. He was the original owner. It has been hunted with and is not a "collector" item. Certainly not "as new" but not beat up either.
I put 40-50 rounds through it and killed a few deer. It has not been out of my safe since 1993.

Is $500 out of line?

I would be real firm on that $500 and maybe even kick it up a notch. Those first years 700s were absolutely beautiful rifles and accurate as can be. I have one in .270 that my Dad bought around that time. I Used it to take many a deer and it's still a beautiful rifle even with the few knocking around in the woods scratches on the stock. I take it to the range from time to time just for old time sake. Still shoots sub moa with my hunting loads...

If the bore and muzzle are in good shape that is easily a $600 rifle now, so $500 is a good deal for the buyer. I have seen similar rifles that recently sold for over $750.

That rifle is worth a max of $300 to some people, and others might pay $700. It's about finding someone who wants THAT rifle and how big of a hurry you are to sell it. You're going to have a hard time finding that person who would pay $700 but I'm sure there are people who would. Most of the people paying a premium are doing so with rifles chambered in less common cartridges. Being a 30-06 hurts the value. Around $400-$500 seems reasonable to me.

That barrel appears to be 24" instead of 22". That along with the reverse stamped checkering they used back in those days is a deal killer for a lot of people including myself.
