I thought your Varget load shot pretty well. I find Nosler bullets to be very similar to Sierra in the 30 cal can't speak for 6.5

Yeah, their Custom Competition line is reported to be almost identical to each of their Sierra Match King counterparts.

I haven’t seen any Noslers available in .264 lately though.

There was some potential with Varget @ 37.0 and 38.2-38.3. We’ll see at 200.

BTW, thanks again for the second set of eyes on my H4350 target!

No problem Amigo'
I no longer use the Noslers but they did tune about the same, speaking of bullets the tangent , secant and hybrid all are different. I can't speak to Hybrid but the others can have significant differences yet appear close when measured AOL. The tangent also has a much longer bearing surface as well as a much longer base to ogive measurement. My load data won't do you much good but the trends seem typical.
My secant are at a jam with slightly faster powder ..
My tangent tune at a jump using a bit slower but very similar powder

I always use wind flags when im tuning and that way if I do get a few weird shots i can trace it back to conditions and still get decent information as in the sample below.

C86BE66A-0E0F-4F75-9332-A267A99A74AB.jpeg Today’s results

130 ELD-M
Hornady brass 1.906”
Fed 210M LR primers
42.0 grains H4350
COAL - 2.8325
Velocity - 2813
SD - 6
4 shot group - .5”

130 TGK
H4350 41.9-42.7
Hornady brass 1.906”
Fed 210M LR primers
COAL - 2.8525

41.9 grains
V - 2835 fps
SD - 13
5 shot group - 1.3125”

42.1 - 2829, 15, 1.4375”
42.3 - 2860, 27, 1.75”
42.5 - 2869, 6, 1”
42.7 - 2879, 8, 1.3125”

I guess my gun just doesn’t like these TGK.

I guess Jim was right about 42.0 H4350 being the ticket with 130 grain ELDs. No vertical again.

So far it looks like the winners going to 200 are all 130 ELD’s:
37.0 Varget
43.4 N160
42.0 H4350
? VV N555

Will try to shoot VV N555 later this week.

Still in a bit of a scatter mode but at least 42.0 will hit the same spot, im just not sure how big that will spot is gonna be.

Did you say the TGK are a hybrid ?

When I was testing 130 TMK & SGK I found that Varget out preformed H4350 with the lighter pills. Varget required less powder too, 38.4gr for the TMK.. But once I moved up to the 140gr ELD's H4350 (42.3gr) was a clear winner.

Jim, the ELD over 42.0 grain H4350 grouped half an inch. The other holes were fouling shots.

The 130 TGK have yet to group too well with any powder.

Yep. That’s the SPJ load. I’m rooting for it in the upcoming 200 yard test. I loaded 15 each of the 130 ELDs over 37.0 Varget, 43.4 N160, and 42.0 H4350. I’m waiting for the winner of the N555 test to complete the set to test @ 200 yds. I’ll take an average of three 5-round groups for each and make the winner the load I use to try my hand at shooting to 300 yards and beyond. I’m liking the H4350 combo’s chances!

When Sierra .264 MK’s or maybe Lapua Scenars finally become available again, I’ll probably switch to those. At least I’ll have an ELD load as a solid back-up option. Who knows? The SPJ combo might make it to my load book hall of fame!

Perspective:
So, I ran across something online about actual 100 yard benchrest shooting. I saw some targets and some scorecards. Holy crap! My groups are ginormous. My sub half inch groups that happen every once in awhile that I’m so proud of would ruin their day. Granted, a contraption holds their rifle instead of a bipod. Still, dayum! They shoot some tiny little groups.

In short range BR a fella can shoot .25 beyond the bullet diameter for the entire weekend and finish way out of the money.
Gotta shot in the teens to be competitive.

LR is a bit different...I zero my scopes at 300 yards

Yep.

The one on the left will work, not so much the one on the right. Let one get away. :)

That said, we don't need to shoot that tight to shoot steel at long distance and have fun. Up close (100/200) we don't have to deal with shooting through as much conditions as we do at long distance, and we simply are not going to shoot that tight without wind flags and plenty of time to finish. :)

It inspired me to make some changes to try and improve. I’m going to:
• Start turning my necks
• Use a front bag instead of the bipod during load development
• Stop taking unstable shots timing a trigger pull with a moving reticle because I’m too impatient to settle in properly
• Get better at consistent seating even if I gotta spend a little for a better die
• Learn to measure and control neck tension

I may not shoot 1’s and 2’s but I can try and wring all the accuracy possible out of a really well-made barrel.

VV N555 test
130 ELD-M
Hornady brass 1.906”
Fed 210M LR Primers
COAL - 2.8325

42.4 grains - Avg Velocity - 2790 fps, SD - 9, 5 round group size - 1.125”
42.6 - 2799, 8, .875”
42.8 - 2808, 8, .90625”
43.0 - 2834, 14, .875”
43.2 - 2844, 11, .75” *possibly .375 (shot wrong bullet in round robin I think)
43.4 - 2853, 12, 1.3125”
43.6 - 2866, 6, .75”
43.8 - 2873, 12, 1.0625”
44.0 - 2888, 11, .9375”
44.2 - 2886, 13, 1.125”

Fouling shot, 1st 25 round-robin, cleaned, fouling shot, last 25 round-robin

Can’t blame the shooting. Used front and rear bag, was consistent, allowed mostly free recoil. Felt right. A little wind on last 5 groups.

*Primers in charge order across starting back row top left ending front row bottom right.

Picked these up today along with another # of H4350. I’m rich ya’ll. Anybody use these or sub ‘em for 210M? FE0647F2-DE85-4E05-A3B9-85245668CBEA.jpeg

Here’s the raw data sorted by velocity. Loads showing accuracy potential with each powder are highlighted.

Final 130 ELD-M 100 yard test
Hornady brass 1.906”
Fed 210 Primers
COAL 2.8325
Front and rear bag
5-10 mph left to right wind
3 sets of Round-robin 5 shot groups each load

37.0 Hodgdon Varget
1) 1.188
2) .938
3) 1.188
Avg: 1.104”

43.4 VV N160
1) .938
2) .688
3) .781
Avg: .802”

42.0 Hodgdon H4350
1) .906
2) .750
3) 1.25
Avg: .96875”

43.2 VV N555
1) .688
2) .625
3) 1.063
Avg: .7917”

* 1 high shot each on bottom row groups w/H4350 and VVN555 because of my sloppy control skewed results a bit. All other shots “felt right”. H4350 shoulda been .8 ish and N555 shoulda been .6 something. Oh,well.
