What’s the shortest time you have owned a gun?

I have and have had a number of 12 gauge pump shotguns from Winchester (1200) Remington (870) Browning (BPS) and have no recoil sensitivity. I once bought a Mossberg 500 and I felt like that shotgun was going to pound me into the dirt it hit me so hard. Was it stock fit? likely but I had no need to be diddling with it and I sold it the same day. I still have an 870 and BPS which I used often in the field and for trap and skeet.

I owned an HK 9mm pistol for a few hours a couple of months ago. I worked out a couple of trades one morning which gave me the HK which I then immediately sold to my neighbor. When it was all done it got me this 1975 production Series 70 Colt .38 Super for $425 out of pocket. And I'm a sucker for .38 Supers.

I purchased a .17 Savage bolt-rifle from a range acquaintance,,,
Took it to the range the next day and fired 100 rounds.

Sold it for a very modest profit the next day or so,,,
Can't remember exactly.

I was simply very unimpressed with the cartridge,,,
Especially since it really didn't perform better on targets than my .22 LR rifles.

And the ammo was way too expensive.

Maybe if I were a small game hunter I would have kept it,,,
But for serious or casual range use,,,
I found I didn't need it.

I won a S&W revolver from the 19-teens in an auction, that was marked as being owned by the New York Conservation Department. Several weeks later - on a COLT forum - I read a post from a former law enforcement officer whose collection of NY Conservation Department handguns was complete - except for the very model I had acquired. I contacted him, and sold it to him. So, I owned it about 3 weeks.

5 minutes; I was at a gun show and purchased a very nice used pistol for $400,
and then immediately went to the men's room. I walked up to the urinal, with the
gun (in a soft case) under my arm, and as I was "unzipping" a man came up to
me and asked me, "what have you got ?" I told him, and he offered me $500 for
the gun. I said, "OK, let me finish my piss first". I finished, washed my hands,
and we did "the deal" right there in the men's room.

For me, it was around 1 day. I bought a CZ-75B from a coworker for a decent price. Didn't really fit my hand well, I have small hands. That trigger was way too far forward for me. Was at the range with my buddy the next day, he shot a couple of mags through the CZ, really liked it. I told him - "good to hear, it's yours now." We've sold guns back and forth to each other for years.

My last 1911 was a Kimber, a really pretty gun, about 12 years ago. I was at the "three strikes" point on 1911's, and if the Kimber was a dud like the Colt Commander was, I would be done with 1911's forever. It looked great, unlike the Colt, the machine work was very well done. First two mags were a flashback to the Colt, bang, bang, JAM. Clear, bang JAM. Clear, repeat. Mags from a friends gun did no better. I was advised to shoot it until it "broke in". I finally gave up at about 250 rounds as it got no better. I cleaned it up again, put it in the consignment case at the LGS and it was gone about 2 days later. I only lost about $100 on it, not counting all the rounds I put through it "breaking it in". I took that money and bought an EAA Witness .45, a gun that has never had a single issue, and a bunch of ammo. I still have the Witness. My other .45ACP guns are a Sig P220, and a SAR K245. No 1911's for me.

The time it takes to turn around, so 3 seconds? I was at a gun show and had a rifle some guy had to have. Don't even remember what it was, but 300 was its value. He offers me a NIB remlin 30-30 and we trade. We shake hands, I turn around and make one step when some guy says, "that 30-30 for sale?" Slick as anything I say, "yeah, 450 bucks." He counter offers with 425 in his hand and I give him the rifle. The guy I traded with wasn't even 10 feet away yet. Ah, the good old days...

Never been less than a couple of months for me. Shortest may have been the RIA .45 ACP I got a deal on. It was my first 1911 pattern gun, and I only owned it long enough to determine that the platform was not for me. Absolutely nothing wrong with it; just didn't float my boat. I had a Remington 700 Sendero in .300 Win Mag for a bit longer before deciding I didn't want it; that may have been six months.

I've owned several under 24 hours and never fired them. Bought from some guys who needed rent money right now and sold them at a gun show the next day.

But my fastest flip was about 20 minutes. I had a beater Beretta 92 that I'd picked up used. It looked like it had been placed in a box of rocks and shook for about an hour, but it shot and functioned great. Just like everyone here gun shop owners have their preferences and price guns accordingly. I found a like new Beretta just like mine used in a pawnshop locally. The guy hated Beretta and had it priced cheap. I knew better than to try to trade my beater with him, but also knew he loved Ruger's.

I drove across town to another pawn shop where I traded my beater Beretta straight up for a Ruger P90. Took the P90 back and traded it straight up for the Beretta. All 3 of us felt we got the better end of the trades.

I owned a Rock Island 45 for a few hours. Bought it at a steal from a guy who was hard up for cash. I took the Rock to the range that afternoon, loaded up some magazines with ball, and it didn’t make it back to the truck with me to leave. Another shooter at my range had to have it, so I sold it to him, but kept my 2 spare magazines I brought to try it out.

Way back in the 20th Century I bought a Chinese copy of a TT 33 pistol in 9mm. Out of the box it would drop the hammer when you flicked the safety off. Boxed it back up and returned to wholesaler for credit toward something sale able. Not even a whole day. Joe

Bought a raven in the morning. I Already had it sold for double to someone else before I even bought it. It was sold in the afternoon. Cheap guns go quick. So..3 hours?

I was trying to grow my 10mm stable and always wanted to try a Glock, so I bought a Model 20 at Academy on Friday at about 3:00. I took it to the range and put a box of shells through it and realized Glock's were not for me. Saturday sold it to a guy at a gun show at about 11:00 am. I believe that's 20 hours and sold it for $25 more than I paid for it.

24 hours. Open the box, examined the shotgun and shipped it back the next day. New 2K shotgun that looked like a 4th grader fitted the stock. Total rip off. Took me 2 months to get the dealer to refund after I took some unpleasant action with the CC company and the CO attorney general.

Had a S&W M59. Lasted a month. Hated it and traded for a series 70.
Walther PPK for a couple months. Totally unreliable for carry.
