Which and why would you choose one of these for everyday carry. They are single stack 9mm pistols and both are very thin. I dont care about others , I am talking about these two. I have owned both in the past and both served well. I just want to get a feel for what other owners think of them and which is the most reliable for everyday carry , pocket lint and dust , ability to digest all kinds of ammo , and so on . Holsters are not a concern since I have some for both. Thanks for any input . It is very much appreciated.

Glock. Hands down. The XDS isn’t a bad pistol, but for carry purposes the glock just seems to be a better fit, and because it’s a Glock it will be better supported in the market. My wife bought a 42, if I were to buy a Glock it would be a 43. As far as reliability, it truthfully doesn’t get better than Glock. There are equals, but nothing truly better.

I wouldn't pick either one of them... I haven't picked either one of them... but it's your question. Like the others suggest, I would test drive both of them and see. Actually shooting a pistol is a lot different than looking or even handling one. You might decide neither one is right for you.

Try out both and see which one fits your hands and you shoot the best. I don't think you will go wrong with either.

I don't like Glocks. Don't shoot them well, so sold all mine long ago.

The Glock 43 and 48 are spectacular guns. No comparison to most of the competing guns. Not in the same ballpark as the XD. If my collection was burned up in a fire and I had to replace all from scratch, I'd get a 48 MOS as my compact.

(Without getting off track to a totally different suggestion) I'd look real, real hard at the 43x or even 48 instead of the base model 43 (and the MOS with a small RDS as well and a WML underneath). Unless you have a very specific size constraint, once you get that light or flat, the extra length won't usually cause issues, and is MUCH easier to shoot. Both the 43x and 48 are broadly as shootable as full-size guns and adding the light and dot make them much more effective.

So why did you part with them? If your poll included 'None of the above' I would have voted.

There are better single stack options than those now , Shield Plus , Hellcat and 365 . I would be looking at one of those , good triggers and good capacity , along with being slim . But of your choices the XDS .

Most threads open with the final selection of guns already chosen, yet we never get to hear what the criteria of selection were. Why these two? Absent the requirements, threads become fan fodder, or worse, "get both."

At 72 and working a retirement job at a gun store, I have tried them all

You do you, but the smallest I go is CZ 75 D compact.

Also, If you insist, look at the Taurus 111 Millennium and the G2C

I like the grip safety on the XDS. Reholstering with your thumb on the back of the slide disables the trigger. Unlike a thumb safety, you don’t need to remember to switch it off to fire.

You know how it is , you see something else but don't have the money so I sold one to get another and so on.

I have a shield in .40SW . I don't care for the newer Sigs , and I don't like the Hellcat

I have a CZ75 Compact . I love it and its one of the guns I wont sell. I like it since it's all metal and hammer fired. Very reliable .

Me? XDS, because it points much like my 1911.

In my hands, the Glock grip feels like it's optimized for some distantly related species with their thumbs in a different place.

I have a G43, but there are better options than either the G43 or the XD. But between those 2 I'd take the G43.

The grip safety on the XD is a deal killer for me. It is far more likely to prevent the gun from firing when you really need it to fire than prevent it from firing when you don't want it to. Especially on a gun that small where it is harder to always get a good grip.

Have you considered the XDe? It gives up the grip safety but gives you DA/SA, and the ability to carry cocked and locked.

The Glock seems large for a pistol that only holds 6 rds---I would probably go for the XD if limited to just these two guns... Of course, I purchased two Kahr CW-9s well before either of the two pistols was for sale---one for my wife and one for me---she wanted her own gun and is confused by DA/SA trigger systems, so after shooting a CW-9 owned by a friend, she decided that was for her---I got one for me so that if she had to grab "my" gun for some reason, she could operate it just like "her" gun... There is also an HK P2000SK 9mm with "Light LEM" DAO trigger system around the house if needed and she shoots it just fine too---the only other guns she shoots are Nylon 66 and 10-22 22lr rifles---keeping things simple for someone who likes shooting, but doesn't want to be confused by trigger operation...

The grip safety on the XD. . . is far more likely to prevent the gun from firing when you really need it to fire than prevent it from firing. . .
I don't doubt your experience with the pistol, but I can't figure out how this happens. If I grab my XDs anywhere remotely close to correctly (not across the back of the slide, and not so low I can't reach the trigger), the grip safety is depressed.
