There is a considerable chance Weatherby is bringing out a new cartridge sooner than later. A few people and I have commented about it on Weatherby Nation. I think it will have a .338 caliber bullet on their RPM case.
What do you all think?

For any big game hunting.....it’s difficult to beat the .338 dia. cartridges. Obviously, they are “not” needed for smaller big game.....but, that does not lessen their effectiveness! There would be a lot of well established competition for that caliber/cartridge as a “new” Weatherby offering, but for those that like the Weatherby’s......! memtb

Most CF cartridges will kill most game (given a competent shooter). Another cartridge and more marketing and more of the same. I do not own a 30-06 or a .270 or a 25-06 or a (ad nauseam) - they all do about the same thing 99% of the time. Nothing wrong with owning the latest and greatest but looking at the pragmatic, all about the same stuff.

I think Weatherby may be moving away from the biggest/baddest/fastest craze the company was founded on, as the 6.5 RPM is more like a 6.5-.284 than it is a 6.5-.300 Whby.

With the .340 and the massive .338-.378 filling the top end I can’t see them bringing out a .338 Federal-class cartridge... as that one didn’t light the world on fire despite being a very effective and efficient round. I also think it’ll be on the smaller size as well, with 6mm leading the possibility.

Stay safe.

You are right, they all do about the same thing... but I still own all of them.

I guess I should have noted the discussion was on the RPM and not the belted magnums. I guess I would still expect a 6mm.

Seems like they have a cartridge for everything from .25 to .46 so maybe they go small (6mm ?) Like Loonwolf and WisBorn stated. Seems like they have the other niches filled.
Yup. Those and two .22’s (The extinct .220 Rocket and the near extinct .224 WM) and a 6mm too (.240 WM). About the only other common bores (?) in the US Weatherby never put out were a .323 and a .358 Weatherby magnum.

Neither of which I’d find very pleasant to shoot :(.

Stay safe..

I just think the 6mm fits the branding of the RPM line, at least in this market.
Id love to see a new 7mm as Troy said, or even an updated standard face long action .277, but i dont think either is real likely.
Id be extra tickled if they came out with a fast twist 25, but i dont think its likely. I don't really think 30 and larger is likely either.

Who knows maybe they're bringing out their first AR with a proprietary cartridge

6mm is likely, I've wanted to do a 6-284 for years but the speed and efficiency is not there from the older books I've read. Today some more should be squeezed out with new powder, plus the heavier bullets help. Hope they don't do there double radius, I was never a fan.

It's a very good chance whatever they come out with will be a fast twist.

I used a .224 Weatherby all over northern central coastal calif for 30 years. It was great except I always longed for a faster twist version so I could shoot 3000FPS 70 grain bullets out of it ! the 3300 FPS 60 grain Nosler were barely stabilized to 400-500 yards and that is what I happily used in the 80s and 90s before the the VLD heavy bullets came out in the new century. I sold the Deluxe German made rifle in 2013 with it's Weatherby Imperial 2.75-10x scope (German Nickle) with dies and 5 boxes of brass for $1800. The bore was not yet washed out, I shot it only to kill predators or deer prolly under a thousand rounds, I had 250 factory 55 grain loads for it when I bought it and reloaded those about 4 times- a good cartridge ! However a .22-250 Ackley with a 1-8 twist is a whole lot better :) I had one built with the $ from the sales .
