I had a Sheridan Blue Streak back in the 60's. I was looking at a Benjamin 392. Any thoughts or should I be looking at break barrel guns. I just want it for doves and squirrels around the yard. I haven't bought an air gun in many years .Any help would be appreciated.

You choice looks interesting. I don't have one of those. I have a Gamo Bone Collector in .22. Gamo 13 - Chipmunks 0.

If you can find someone willing to let you try their springer, that would help make the decision for you.
Springers recoil when shot and inconsistent hold can affect your accuracy
OTOH springers are quieter to cock and shoot - other factors being equal

I don't see the 392 new anywhere for under $200. The wood-stocked one looks pretty neat. I'd rather have it in wood, and also in .177 simply because I don't need the .22 and have scads of .177 caliber pellets. Since I wouldn't be using it for pest control or anything like that, though, it's pricey for me.

Pyramyd had Walther Parrus for $149 it is a beast to shoot but it is also powerful mine does 1073 fps with Crosman premier hollow points

Nothings wrong with a Sheridan Blue Streak:thumbup:

My experience is extremely limited, having just bought my first air rifle (Gamo Raptor Whisper .22) a few months ago but I've been VERY impressed with it's performance. That being said, if I'd known about this -
The very best rifle you can buy under $200. Mike will not sell you a bad gun. He tests them all. Boxed factory or one with his tune you can't go wrong. No one ever has a bad thing to say about Mike's products.

- I definitely would've given that strong consideration...

Gunpartscorp.com has .177 German made Diana 34 wood stocked break barrel air rifles for $200+shipping.

Likewise!

I m satisfied with my Hatsun Vortex 95. But it was a blind leap of faith. I spent about the same for the upgraded scope as I spent on the rifle! 20210501_150318.jpg

It's always a little tough to buy something with no real idea as to how it's going to perform and I have a tendency to end up with paralysis by analysis when I start reading reviews! Lol

I do enjoy NOT thinking about how much $$$ is going downrange with each shot and that makes it a lot more relaxing, especially if I'm not dialed right in!

Yes, wish I still had it.

I like a Crossman .177 M4 multi pump to choose the Power level I want to shoot at even though I live in the country in Central Calif. For shots of about 20-30 yards it seem more than sufficient.

Just remember to only shoot pellets to retain accuracy of the barrel as BB's will destroy the Lans and pellet accuracy.

As posted before, I spent almost three times the cost of the rifle by
adding a Leapers 3x12x44 Etched Glass Reticle SWAT scope with 32 intensity adjustable colors to light up both complete Mill dot crosshairs. The Left side, Side Wheel Turret is very useful, especially if you add a larger focusing Wheel, available in two diameters 'at slight additional cost'. An excellent scope for the money though !
*> I wouldn't suggest it for use on either a Springer or Nitro Piston air rifle though due to the severe dual, rear/front, jolt these rifles produce !

For what it’s worth that scope holds up fine on a springer. I have 3 or four of them mounted on various spring guns.

He said on the very day they broke on him. :). Seriously though they have been fine.

A friend has my RWS 34 if you hold it the way it likes, it’s more accurate at distance than my Benjamin 392. I can get 5 shot groups in the 4” range at 100 yards with the RWS, 14.3gn pellets run closer to 700 fps vs the advertised 800fps.

You might be able to find an old 392 that doesn’t work anymore pretty cheap and there isn’t much to rebuilding one though.

I prefer it over the RWS and a gamo springer I had for most of my pellet gun tasks. No need for artillery hold.

For longer range shooting, the PCP’s I bought after the 34 beat it in performance and tolerance of hold.
