These give me a grin just like the sound of a lumpy big block idling does.

I know. The magic expanding bullets, that are only available in 9mm, make the teeny-weeny europellet a devastating death-ray and that is why the FBI uses it, not because that’s as much as little ladies and persons of indeterminate gender can handle.

Not suggesting the FBI adopt revolvers in 45LC :p Nevertheless, 250 grs 45 cal wad cutters (these from Matt’s Bullets) offer significant displacement and make big holes. That’s good.

Anyone else like wad cutters in 45?

Sadly, I don't own a .45 LC. But I am looking for some 158 gr hard cast LSWC for my .357. Maybe some shining distant day ammunition will be available again.

Oh those are cool. Soft target bullets or hardcast?

A good friends theory of stopping power:
Poke a hole.
Poke the biggest hole you can.
Poke it all the way through.

Softish. Perfect in my view. Not sure what will stand up to 250 grs of BHN 12 at just shy of 1000 fps in any event. But they are mainly for paper.

I have the .357 equivalent of those. 230 grain full wad cutter. I use them for bowling pins. The load I use clocks 835 fps average out of a 4". I've never laid a pin down with them. The pins aren't scared of them any more than any other round so you still have to actually hit them but if it's a hit the pin clears the table.

I do now!

Typically I have only used wadcutters in my .38 Special reloads. But I will certainly look into some of those in .45 Colt! I see those bullets and the first word that comes to mind is "Thud"; the sound it makes when it's on target!

I started to order some from Matt’s for the .45, .44, .41 and .357.... then ended up sidetracked and didn’t follow through.

Those soup cans you’ve loaded make me wish I had bought them, awesome!

How do they group from your revolvers?

Stay safe.

Your analogy is great.
I loved my thumpity thump big blocks and I love my 45 Colts!!!!

I've always equated these types of rounds as throwing Bowling Balls at _____________.
Your Target Here

.

@Pat Riot - this is my second batch for testing. First batch was full bore for cast and standard 45 Colt, just over 950 fps. I have some loaded down to what may be as little as 800 fps and I suspect accuracy will improve at lower velocity.

@shoebox1.1 these are are going in my recently purchased S&W 25 - 15. I will try them.in my RBH as well to see how they do. They shot well years ago from my Rogers & Spencer with conversion cyl, my most accurate pistol, but I have lost the load data that I used then.

@Riomouse911 this recently purchased 25-15 has shown me that my double action shooting skills are somewhere between non-existent and appalling. As a Frontiersman and Frontier Duelist shooter in CAS, a two hand grip on a revolver feels weird enough! Single action, my best group at 25 yards with the first batch, 18 rounds single action, was a 4" group of six. I think I can tighten that up some but not a lot.

I load the SAECO 453, a 235 grain full wad cutter, in my ACP revolvers. I drive them to 850 - 900 FPS. The impact it remarkable on inanimate or animate targets.

@DocRock
I have an S&W 25-15 as well. When I first got it in March of this year my DA trigger was very stiff. I mostly shot it what I call “Dirty Harry style” - single action ;)
The trigger was stiff and I had one arm in a brace from an injury and surgery and my right hand was still recovering from surgery last Fall. It’s been a crappy past 12 months :)
Anyway, the last two times at the range with it I have been shooting it double action and I must say the parts all seem to be braking in nicely.
The DA pull is much better than it was when I first bought it.
I am actually taking it and my 2 Vaqueros to the range this morning. I also have an original Vaquero with a 7.5” barrel and I have a New Vaquero 5.5” that I also had a .45 ACP cylinder made up for.

I think I am going to have to get some of those wad cutters and give them a try. :D

Edit: I see you also shoot CAS. I have shot Duelist for so long that two handed shooting was alien to me. I have been practicing two handed shooting again for the past year and it was like I was relearning how to shoot again. Haha

I'm queer for .45s -- both the .45 Colt and the .45 ACP. In .45 Colt, I like the Lee 452-255-RF powder coated with Harbor Freight Red. This is almost a wadcutter and shoots well in both my Ruger Blackhawk and my Colt New Service.

Years ago I was able to purchase WCs in 44 Special, something about those big clean cut round holes in the target.....

I like wad cutters in .45 Colt. I also like this 270 grain hard cast LSWC in .45 Colt. Very hard hitting and accurate!

Matt’s is the best. They’re like lead jewelry.

And you are the first poster to make my .44 Sp Matt’s loads look inadequate

Just saw a YouTube that shows soft wadcutters expand well in gel at low speeds

High-performance defensive ammunition with premium bonded bullets is available in 9mm, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, 40, and .45 ACP.

Unfortunately, not in .38-40.

these from Matt’s Bullets

Those are some thumpers, Doc. Ought to do a nice job on just darn near anything you decide to "poke". Thanks for posting this, by the way. I had no idea Matt's Bullets even existed; I'm about 40 minutes drive from his shop, so I'll certainly be placing an order in the near future.
