Forgot I had this lower.

What mission?

How about a simple back up rifle?

Rifle for spouse?

Well if things keep going the way we are now and we open back up the firearms trade with China then you will end up with a good choice. I would go with 300 BO pistol though if I were doing it. Granted I reload so that makes it more attractive to me.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. A pistol is a good idea since the buffer tube attachment area is a weak point on the polymer lowers. I'm thinking about a "How cheaply can I finish this into a functional firearm?" build.

If you are worried about the cracked reciever issue that is common with poly lowers then you might as well limit yourself to 22lr. Still, a 22lr in a pistol format would be a lot of fun.

I milled this polymer lower about 7 years ago and forgot I had it. I have to build it now. Obviously I don’t want to put a whole lot of $ in it.
Suggestions? I’m thinking a 30 caliber upper; 7.62x39 or ???
Bear Creek Arsenal. Complete uppers in 7.62x39 with either side or rear chargers for $250. They are putting the enhanced firing pins in the new ones to deal with steel cased ammo. I'm waiting on one of their uppers now.
If you want to go the pistol route the uppers are around $224 shipped. They make quality products for a cheap price and x39 ammo is cheap.
