Yesterday I sat on the deck cleaning guns, and I posted pics of my 2.5”, 686. Tonight after dinner I again sat outside enjoying the weather and cleaning a gun. Tonight it was my 3 inch 686. Had it out to the range a few weeks ago and it was grubby, but it cleaned up OK

Late summer/early fall Of 2019 was the height of the Gun sales slump. A LGS advertised a 1 day only, cash only, 20% off on all used handguns.
I had been in there a week or two earlier and had seen this 3 inch 686 plus, priced at $599, so 20% off was phenomenal. I had actually handled this gun a couple times since it appeared 6 or 7 weeks earlier in the shop. Immediately after hearing about the sale, I called to see if they still had it. They did but would not hold it for me until the sale the next day. It was first come, first served. Got up the next morning and made the 30 mile drive to the shop. Arrived 5 minutes after opening and bought it. The bonus was when I saw the envelope with the test fire cartridge. It was dated 6-8-2011 and June 8 is my birthday.

I think I found the seller on eBay and they don’t have any that look that good for a 686. The cool looking ones fit other guns. :(

Man those 686’s sure clean up nice! Both of you have some real lookers .

This is starting to make me pine for one of my own....;)

Stay safe.

I had to check ebay a few times to find ones I liked. Many of the Thai grips have a fairly bland wood grain.

Those are some handsome guns! I like my 3" K6s so much I'd love to find a larger frame 686 or 66 in that barrel length. Maybe even an old Ruger if I could find one.

Posted these before but difficult not to join this conversation. Over two years I purchased all of these, never could decide which one I wanted.........

I had that same exact gun and absolutely loved it. But I could never look past that big hole in the side of it so I sold it. Do not regret it

How's the thickness of the Thai grips? I'm trying to find something similar in feel to the Kim Ahrends grips, nothing I've tried seems to feel right. Pachmayr Renegade grips are close, they're just a little thick.

I have short barreled versions (2-1/2" or so) of the Model 69 (44 mag L-frame) and Model 986 (9x19 L-frame). I feel they hamstring the cartridge with the short barrel. I'd rather have at least a 4" barrel with a revolver the size of an L-frame. I have a 5" Model 986 and a 4" Model 69 which are much better revolvers to shoot than the short versions.

A J-frame snub nose in 38 Special or 32 H&R Mag or 327 Fed Mag would be a better for a short barrel pocket gun.

With my opinion and $5, you can get a designer cup of coffee.:)

I had a set of Renegade but sold them after using once. They where way too thick. These Thai grips are thinner, but still beefy enough to distribute the recoil. I got a set of Thai, K frame, square butt target grips and they were way too thick for me. Each panel was 1/8+ thicker than factory target grips. Of the 7 or 8 sets of Thai grips I have, those targets were the only really thick ones. They tend to be a hair thicker than Altamont stocks and do a pretty good job of contouring so there are no squared off edges where recoil force can be concentrated
