Anyone else begrudgingly packing a 9mm

I wouldn’t say I pack the 9x19 begrudgingly, but it’s more like I carry my L9A1 most often these days because it’s logical to do so versus carrying something the same size which carries fewer rounds and is probably heavier.

To me, strapping my Enfield No.2 or a 1911 on in the morning prepares me for a lot of possible threats and to be honest sparks a bit of joy in my mind as well because of the way I appreciate the history and feel of those tools. Strapping the striker fired polymer 9x19 service weapon on just doesn’t have the same feeling of joy (or satisfaction or nostalgia or whatever you prefer), but logically I know it’s as good or likely a much better choice should a weapon become immediately relevant.

I'm in the process of replacing my 5-shot 38 revolver with a compact CC pistol. Started out convinced that it would be 45 ACP but now not so sure that a 9 mm won't be the final choice. Still in the process of assimilating the idea.

I've owned two guns chambered in 9mm. A S&W Sigma (the worst gun I've ever owned), and a Gen 3 G26.

The G26 was decent, but both got sent down the road. The 9x19 just is not my cartridge.

Situation determines what's carried for me.
Some things are larger, some are smaller. The situation is the situation.
I do not feel many calibers are "puny"--they are all typically better than a sharp stick.
So, I have no reluctance to carry a round as middle-of-the-pack as 9x19.

Now, in full fairness, I'm also of an inclination that, if there's to be a firefight, I'm more inclined to want to have a Battalion Landing Team to deal with it. So, all handguns are a bit "puny" in my book, and inherently a compromise.

Life is a compromise and the situation is the situation..

Because my 9mm auto weighs less than the snub .357, I carry the 9 because it puts less strain on my shorts in the summer, instead of the snub. When I wear jeans the snub goes into the pocket, instead.

9mm for a pocket gun (Sig 365) is my preference.
I'm a bit more begrudging about carrying Glock 19 vs 23 or 32 but do so in the spirit of quickest follow up shots and ammo compatibility.

I carried a Colt Series 70 .45 for 20 years then followed some advice after retiring and bought a CZ P-01 and fell in love. Yes, 9MM versus .45 but 14 plus 1 and very accurate out to 25 yards. I use Remington 124 Grain Plus P. I carry a 75 b sometimes while hiking or a CZ P09. I have carried the Glock 21 and Winter carry is the CZ 97b, but all around it's the 9MM in P-01.

Since there is pretty much a consensus that modern 9mm is as efficacious as 40s or 45s, is this just another caliber war? Some folks find the smaller platforms harder to shoot without some significant practice.

Most of the professional trainer world is ok with quality 9mm, IF you know how to use it.

Perhaps a look at Greg Ellifritz's study of
1,700 shootings involving handgun
calibers. Google "Busting Handgun
Caliber Myths" or some such similar
Google sites.

I believe the FBI has used some of this
data.

So, ya'll, stop being silly dillies, cool it
and relax with a brisk lemonade.

My first auto pistol was a 9mm, I bought more, because most armies I have respect for use them. We could have in 1954 - Pistol Trials were ongoing then - but we cheaped out and recycled the 1911 for another 30 years and another arsenal rebuild of the fleet because "iT's ChEaPeR aNd We AlReAdY HaVe ThEm!" Finally we approved it only to pay off Italy for using their bases for our airborne brigade and Med refueling. At least the M9 wasn't a total dog. And now we issue a handgun that is better than Glock - just look at how they have reacted to it ever since.

When I want to carry, I prefer an AR15, I have a 5.56 pistol. Of late, tho, .375 SOCOM rifle parts are being acquired. I'm really looking forward to Fall Poodle Season here in MO.; )

BAHHH!! You mean .45 set to stun. NEVER! :) :p

I kid, I kid. I just love me a good .45ism. :).

Seriously though my primary defensive handgun for a long time is the HK P2000 in 9mm or .40. Have either caliber within arms reach. Don’t begrudge either of them or .45 or .357 or etc. etc. you get the point. I am not caliber monogamous I am sort of a Mormon shooter if you will. :neener:

Really not a big fan of the 9mm ... Anyone else begrudgingly packing a ... punybellum?
The G26 was decent ... got sent down the road. The 9x19 just is not my cartridge.
Don’t like it?
Don’t pack it.
Simple.
I solved my Glock 17/19/26 reluctance by replacing them with Glock 22/23/27. Same size and similar capacities (I use fullsize spare mags)

But I liked shooting cheaper 9mm ammo so addressed that issue by getting 40-9 conversion barrels for all of them.

Problem solved.

Same. Only it's more .357 Sig than .40 for me. Conversion barrels are a great thing.

I have never fired a revolver let alone owned one. My first handgun was M1911 in the service. As a civilian I started with a 45 acp Colt and then went to the Beretta 92F shortly after they came on the market. I have never looked back on 9mm. It will get the job done if you use the right ammo. As for the military and mostlaw enforcement at all level seem to think the pistols are reliable. I have never had an issue wit any pistol that would cause me concern. I use only good ammom—no cheap stuff. I recently bought a new 9mm with 15+1 capacity. That is better than 5 or 6 in a revolver, at least in my mind.

No, I can carry anything I'd carry in the winter in the summer just fine.

I also have no issue with 9mm and am as comfortable with that as .40 or .45.
