Is it ok to preload my 1858 cylinder a week before shooting or will the black power be corrosive sitting in the chambers!

If the charge holes were clean & dry when loaded you'll be fine. Make sure the mouths are sealed and if there's any chance of exposure to water or really high humidity, seal the capped nipples too.

Do you think I should put the caps on the nipples?

As long as you can store the gun safely, no reason not to. But remember your plan to shoot it somewhere and think about safe transport. Plus if you live in one of the nanny states a loaded gun in a car could be an issue. If you get pulled over, refuse permission to search your car.

I often preload cylinders at home before going to the range usually only a day or so before but sometimes plans change.
The ball, if the proper size seals the chambers and the flash hole is so small I don’t see how there could be much humid air entering so I don’t cap. An uncapped cylinder on a a revolver doesn't constitute a loaded gun IMO.

There have been posts in these pages on revolvers loaded for extended periods of time and still discharging fine.

My new Taylor's Ace 1858 came last week and I loaded up a couple extra cylinders and brought two along that were loaded in 2018 when I still lived in Minnesota. Evey one of them fired with the same power.
