Looks like you get what you pay for .... Given price tags.
If someone at the factory had a ruler perhaps the wood stocks would not be so proud off the receiver.
As for the dings in the stock ......

I'm still seeing 700's on the regular, can you not get them in your part of the country? I see them at my LGS, Wal mart, etc all the time.
My LGS got 1 of their new 870's but I didn't get a chance to look at it in person....

Buy an old one in good condition. I recently bought a very nice '74 BDL for $450.

Good call. Yeah my LGS just posted an old 700 BDL in .270 with an older glossy Zeiss (maybe conquest) scope on it for $700. Smokeshow deal. He is always getting and giving killer deals on the good old stuff, if I didn't already have a A-Bolt .270 I would have had to jump on that

I am looking for older ones. New rifles at their old quality means quality OEM parts. All my local Wal-Marts don't sell centerfire rifles. Rimfire and some shotguns only. Most of my local shops that I went to shut down during the pandemic. So I have to find new ones without driving too far.

I would like to buy one of the new model 700s, but not a parkerized gun with a synthetic stock. Perhaps RemArms will have some other offerings down the road that are more appealing.
That wood to metal fit on those 870’s looked like crap. I guess Quality isn’t part of the new RemArms…yet? I hope this isn’t their norm.

I wonder if writing in with disappointing feedback really has any effect, like if it goes anywhere past the person writing an obligatory reply "we are sorry to hear you've had a problem with your remington product........blah blah blah". Like if they actually take it out on the floor and check QC and kick arses if necessary. Sometimes it seems like a waste of time in this day and age with automated replies, etc...
I know that the company I used to work for, if somebody called in to complain there was an effort made to find out what went wrong and how to make sure it didn't happen again and hand out reprimands if necessary. I know it must be a balancing act to get product boxed up and out the door, make a profit while keeping costs down, but those shotguns should have never made it out the door and the video wasn't very confidence inspiring. It really does make you wonder what else isn't up to par that isn't readily apparent.

Why would you expect anything to have changed? RemArms ditched the entire former Remington Outdoor Company R&D engineering staff (they were all in Huntsville and let go) and are now trying to make guns using the same equipment, run by the same people, assembled by the same people, lead by the same management that sent Remington Outdoor Company into a second bankruptcy in two years that ultimately destroyed the larger conglomerate company. They have done nothing to make things better why would you expect anything they produced to be better? I wouldn't take a RemArms firearm if they rolled up a twenty dollar bill and stuck it in the chamber.

Absolutely, LGS had a few last time I was in. Bunch of used 870s too, back when they used real wood.
I like my 700 (bought in 95 or 96) fine, just not it's 6lbs vs the .30-06 cartridge recoil. .308 is more my style, I wish my you get self had got it in .308 or .270 like I almost did.

The thing that it think is odd is that they didn’t stain the front end of the butt stock to at least hide the fact that the wood to metal finish ain’t all that great on those 870s. It’s almost as if they either took the time to mask off the face or they stain the stocks then sand them to fit. Either way it’s pretty freakin’ hokey.

It's the cheapest long gun they make - Express model - so there is going to be zero or very little hand fitting. When cutting tools wear out they make oversize parts so no surprise there. Honestly Remington quality for fit/finish has been poor for years now. They generally function just fine but look like the price you paid for them. These days there are better budget guns for equal or less money. I suspect the Remington premium lines will still be good and priced to match.

It's good that they saw this and responded but at the same time it does not give warm and fuzzy feelings given their excuse. Not a good way to start a "new" gun company. The small profits made selling that inferior quality old product will/has hurt the new company's reputation far more than the small revenue generate by selling that product they (edit) did not have full control over the QC. RemArms making the same bad decisions Remington did not a good sign but at the same time not unexpected given that management has not really changed. Adam Ballard was part of the Remington Outdoor Company too, came from DPMS.

Which begs the question, is the "new" Remington still offering no-cost X-Mark trigger conversions for old Walker guns?

Has anyone bought an entry level standard production gun in the last 20yrs??? An 870 Express was the first firearm I bought without my parents on my 18th birthday, nearly 30yrs ago. Don't recall it being fitted like a Westley-Richards either.

They said they made "significant" efforts to screen out bad product.
That doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling either.
Does a basic Marlin 1984 count from 2019? Different price point, I realize, but still basic model.
Wood fitment is light years better than that RemArms.
Imo, That's a poor result of a "significant" effort. They could have at least beveled the edge meeting the receiver and should have stained it even if using a black sharpie. At least then it would have a black band look rather than ill-fitting and unfinished look.
