Well I had high hopes but didnt have a good feeling. Looks like the same poor QC that made me buy a China H&R Pardner 18" instead of a 870 Exspess about 10 years ago. I have a mid 70s Wingmaster to compare them to and the Norinco was much better than the Exspress. Period. So Remington has been on a long downhill and over the cliff but has been brought back for what? Maybe to really be finished? I don,t think the employment situation has helped. Business can't get anyone with the 52K sit on your butt unemployment. Now add the kids benefit. Local Pepsi bottler has 22.00 an hour starting, full benefits and 2500 bonus. No takers. Plus if I put my tinfoil hat on I wouldn,t be surprised if some younger "woke" employees signed on to make some money and crap at the same time. jmho. I hope I,m really wrong and things get better.

If a proud wood express is the best they can lead off with, I will keep hunting down vintage minty Wingmasters. Looks like a Baikal stock.

I’m sorry, but I didn’t see anything to convince me that these weren’t just new old-stock Illion, Ny Remingtons.
No barrel stamps showing N.Carolina production.

I think quality will improve. Q.C had gone downhill across a lot of different products since Covid hit. Lack of willing workers and hurrying to get products out. When things settle down. And the workforce is back on track i think quality will improve with a lot of products. It's good to see Remington back up and running. I would like to see how Ruger is doing with the Marlin line. Ruger needs to step up their game too. The last few new Rugers i bought had issues with small things. Like loose front sights and roll pins coming out. And they were bought pre-covid. Not putting Ruger down. I own more Rugers than any other brand.

That’s a shame. I think I would enjoy bottling Pepsi if I weren’t already an AC repairman.

My LGS got their first 870 in from the 'new' Remington - rust on the receiver, inside and out, and a pretty good streak of rust on the mag tube. To quote the owner - "You would think that with their reputation, they would just dunk the things in oil like the Filipinos do".

Yuck. Glad I’ve got my old Police model. That gun is a tank and has never failed me. I won’t be seeking out any new RemArm anything.

I have only seen two. One did have proud wood, but the owner applied a little stain and it was much less visible. In the internet age i do not put any value on any third party opinions and/or observations from anyone I do not know.

My friend did QC for Remington and Marlin. It was a ship first, fix later attitude. He said he was consistently over ridden by management. He was layed off and moved out of town. The people from Ilion who make them are hard working people who care. It looks like management attitude might not have changed much.

To be fair in the video you can see exactly what he's talking about so it's not necessarily opinion only

Could be that the quality will improve in time - or maybe they don't consider that an issue (in all fairness the wood being slightly oversized like that isn't a functional issue, even if it cosmetically isn't desirable).

My 870 Express is about 20 years old (I think I bought it around 2000 to 2001) - pre-Cerberus but still not from the "good old days". Still it has served me well and was one of my first gun purchases back in the day. My dad also has 2 870 Wingmasters (the old 2 3/4" only guns) that are quite nice. He's fond of reminding me that they'll be mine eventually thought obviously I'm in no hurry to inherit them.

As much as I dislike synthetic, I don't have this issue with my 3-1/2" SuperMag. My dad's ancient Express riot gun is excellent in fit.

Chinese quality at American prices is NOT a winning formula.

I was willing to put some money into my Norinco M1911 because it was so cheap to begin with. Likewise the Citadel Warthog I'm planning to buy in the next month or so.

Not so much an American gun bought for an American price. If you're going to charge me American prices for an American made gun, it had better not look like it was thrown together in a basement in Warsaw under heavy German shelling.

they will be discounted to about 300-325 instead of 399 and i still think they will sell, alot of 870 express shotguns were sold over the years. i own several 870 express,s in 410-28 ga and after getting over the looks and rough finish they have been work horses in the field handling thousands of shells over the years.

They look like the cheapest version they offer. I won two of them in Christmas raffles over 3 years about 20 years ago, they worked fine although nothing to look at. One had a burr all the way down the vent rib and other fit issues. If your wanting an 870 for looking at get a different model.

Back then the price on them when I won those two were $215 at places like academy sports and I figured “express” was on there because that is how they made them.

The wingmaster 870’s are for the “for looking at” crowd.

Same thing on the SPS 700’s.

The first shotgun I bought was a 12 gauge 870 Wingmaster with a 20" barrel and rifle sights on it. Got it in 1978 and had it for deer hunting and home defense. Quality back then was very high and it was well made and nicely finished with a satin finish on the wood and a semi-matte blued finish on the receiver and barrel. Soon after that I added an 870 Field Wingmaster Model 20 gauge with the high gloss wood finish and checkered walnut stock and fore end; with it's vent rib 26" barrel it was great for upland game hunting. Fit and finish were first rate on both shotguns.

Nowadays I would be hard pressed to even want to look at a new Remington Model 870 shotgun. The last couple of shotguns I got were Mossbergs.

I want to see a new Ringmaster and know the price. Like to compare to my 1965, 75, 78, and other 75 with a replacement receive from the factory in 2018.

walmart had a NOS rem express 12ga rem choke with syn stock for 296.00+tax, i just about bought it. but i have several rem 870,s, so i left it for some one else. i did but several bulk packs(four boxs each) of 12 ga federal shells.
