what will this mean for ramshot zip and silhouette powder? zip looks and behaves almost identical to hp-38 but is from belgium. i hope hodgdon doesnt drop it, because is cleaner and tighter than hp-38

Next thing you know they'll be making a bid on APP. Hodgdon would have the BP substitute market wrapped up.

Maybe APP would be more widely available if that happened. Black-MZ was easy to get for the short time they were selling it.

I hate I missed out on Black MZ but I heard good things about it. I prefer the holy black for sound and ignition but would use a substitute in a pinch if I didn't have any Black in stock

Someone just posted a new photo.
A Walmart in Carthage, Tennessee just got in their muzzle loading supplies for hunting season, and they have a bunch of Blackhorn 209 priced at $36.86.
The bottle has a new blue label.

Bpw,

I too prefer the original "gun powder" to any of the subs. However, I have a S&W Schofield Model of 2000 that won't go through 4 rounds before gumming up so tightly I cannot advance the cylinder by cocking the hammer and barely turn it with my free had while pulling the hammer back. The only thing that makes me able to shoot that gun, without resorting to those newfangled smokeless powders, is the one pound of Black-MZ I have left over from trying it in my 45 Colt's cartridges. I can't find APP locally but I keep hoping, for the sake of the Schofield.

I'm sorry to hear about your Schofield brother. I have seen APP on the internet a few times but never locally. Its easier for me to break down and pay the hazardous material fee and order online then go through the motions to Maybe find some locally. Have you tried Old eyensford in your Schofield yet? Compared to red label Goex it's about 1/3 as dirty after each shot. I think they may not use graphite in the OE formulation of GOEX. I honestly feel OE is the same formulation of regular Goex Minus the graphite and then sifted extra through a much smaller sieve

Unfortunately the complete lack of bushing ring at the front of the cylinder on those Model of 2000s means fouling is an almost insurmountable issue. You might try duplexing to see if you can diminish residue. 2 grains of a pistol powder like Bullseye under your 3ffg BP load may get clean enough combustion to get you through a full cylinder.

Wish my local Wally World would get off their duffs and put something, anything BP or otherwise on the shelves. You can't even find air rifle ammo.
