H&R 1871 Pardner pump any good?

I have a friend who’s had one for close to ten years. No hiccups yet.

I have a short one and a 28" one, both work fine, I bought both used and watched a video about how to clean and oil them and have done that yearly since.

I have one with an 18" bbl and I paid about $200 for it new, about 10 years ago. If I had the chance to buy another for that price, I probably would. I haven't shot it alot but I have read plenty of accounts of folks who have and use them as field guns and say they can take the punishment. Because it is a copy of an 870 you will hear people dump on them because it's chinese, but on the other side there are folks who say their pardner is of better build quality and more reliable than their genuine remington express.

I like that even though it's a budget gun, it feels like a quality, durable, well made shotgun..... No chintzyness to it.

I bought one as my second gun way back in 2008. A basic as can be 18”/CYL bead sight only model. Always worked good for every type of ammo EXCEPT the really terrible cheapo target loads that Walmart was selling at the time. The “brass” which was actually steel and still often is in cheaper shells had some kind of coating or finish the chamber didn’t like. I suspect a good polishing of the chamber would have alleviated the problem but I never tried it and just bought better ammo instead. Interesting to see that while I paid $218 or so as I recall back in the day they are now available frequently for less than $200.

I've owned a 28" vent rib model for a few years. No issues/complaints - informal clay shooting or slugs vs. steel. One of the nephews likes it so much I'm gonna make him buy his own soon...
