This price seems high for a 3rd gen S&W...

My last and favorite work gun was a Smith 457 that was a personal purchase. I love that gun and still carry it when cooler weather permits. That said, magazines are now priced insanely high. And so are the guns themselves. Factory mags can go as high as 85 buck each right now and I have not found a off brand that is reliable. I bought spring kits for my magazines and pistol which are still pretty easy to find. 3rd generation smiths are skyrocketing but that price is just way over where it should be.

Several years ago I found a 1006 on GB for 1000. Gun came with one mag only but was mint and close inspection revealed that the gun most likely had never been shot. I felt damn lucky to find it and I will pay a premium for mint condition as I am mostly a collector now days more than anything else. Not saying I’ll never shoot it but mainly was acquired for its historical significance. Plus I’m a sucker for 3rd gen guns.

The .45s and the 10mms have been going nuts. Regardless if it's shot or not, it's still a used gun. That said, I'd throw him a standing offer, maybe just to get on the books with it. It's been there a couple months, so, at some point, everyone that's gonna see it has seen it. Giva an offer and if he wants to take you up on it in the future, he'll call. At some point, he'll get tired of looking at it.

I've picked up some nice guns that way....
