All Popular Calibers Have Been Outlawed. What Oddball/Obsolete Caliber Do You Carry

I personally would not shoot 38 Super in a 9mm Largo pistol, especially the older ones.

I have actually done the opposite. I have a bunch of 9mm Largo ammo I loaded up years ago with Starline brass that I shoot in my RIA 9mm 1911 with the 38 Super barrel installed. The 9mm Largo rim is closer in size to 9mmx19 so I didn't have to adjust the extractor.
Not to sidetrack this too much, but I have a fair bit of Starline Largo brass (a bunch from Steinel, and then some more from elsewhere). I've been saving the cases, plan to learn to reload at least this caliber. I picked up the ultra-cheap Lee Loader kit for 9mm... would there be any issue using this to reload Largo?

While some have used 9mm dies for reloading 9mm Largo, the 38 ACP dies will work just fine too.. I use the Lee Carbide 38 ACP dies to reload my 9mm Largo ammo. With using 38 ACP dies, I don't have to keep adjusting my 9mm dies when I go from 9mm to 9mm Largo and back again.

The 9mm Largo case is a tapered while the 38 ACP/38 Super case is straight. I have not had any issues in my Star Super A with my reloads using 38 ACP dies. The other difference is the rim diameter, 38 ACP/Super being a semi rimmed case. And that is another reason why one really shouldn't shoot 38 ACP/Super in a 9mm Largo pistol (along with the pressure differences).

Probably a dumb thread, but sometimes those are the most fun so I'll play;).

Automatic: 7.62 Tokarev. I already have 3 handguns in this caliber...bonus. It has enhanced penetration characteristic, especially with creatively modified projectiles, so big bonus there in the OPs scenario as I would likely be using it in such a role. I can also get a suppressed encore barrel for the caliber and throw relatively heavy subsonic projectiles very accurately at moderate ranges. Another good bonus for the end of days.

Automatic #2: 9x21 or .38 super or .357 Sig. Wouldn't really care which. They all trip my fun button for various reasons. Performance superior to standard 9x19, but still a 9mm.

Revolver #1: .41 Rem mag. I already own it. It does everything I need it to. The .44 just won the popularity contest. (.41 owner denial showing here).

Revolver #2: .500 SW...because...why not? It would be either that or a BFR in .45-70

Auto: I'd go with some flavor of CZ Custom's Shadow Target. Make mine a .357 SiG.

Revolver: Ruger Redhawk in .45 Colt, and you also have the ability to shoot .45 Auto Rim and .45 Win Mag.

The 9X21 has the same ballistics as a 9X19.

Already pack a 38 Super and a 45 Colt so I guess I won't notice the difference except in the really hot weather.;)

44 special and 32 long for revolvers. The longs can do everything a 32-20 can do, assuming it’s a 1920s or later S&w revolver with heat treated cylinder. Which means it can plink or be a plenty effective pest control round. And 44 special would be great for social situations. The old 44 Russian black powder round was considered a pretty good manstopper, and the special just updated that round for smokeless (which meant it’s always been loaded very light in spite of its potential.) 44-40 would do as well and there are plenty of new cowboy guns chambered for it.

For a semi auto I’d definitely go with 9mm largo due to its basic convertibility with 9mm Luger loads. If there was a demand I imagine it wouldn’t be that hard to chamber many more modern guns in it. Basically the round is a 38 super case with a 9mm Luger payload.

.50 MG , 84mm Karl Gustov , 105mm, 81mm and the biggest things I can get fighting the oppressor .
In that case what you (and I) really need is a 1970’s era 10th grade chemistry set. You can make all sorts of things that go boom with them things. :D

There is no question in my mind. I would go to 22 LR using the new Federal Punch SD ammo. It make 22 LR more viable as a SD round. I’d use it an rifle and a pistol or revolver. It would be perfect SHTF setup.

For a snub I'll load up some 38LC. I bet I can get it to 38spl or near performance safely with modern brass. For the autos I'll just get a 30 Luger barrel for a Glock and have some hp molds made.
