Is Alliant still in business?

We've been seeing mostly VV, IMR, Accurate, Ramshot, and Alliant around here. Not much for Hodgdon. Only Alliant powder I haven't seen (that I'm looking for at least) is AR Comp. I've picked up plenty of RL16, 23, 26, PP2000MR, PP Varmint in the past 6 months. Have seen Unique, Sport Pistol, and Power Pistol as well. As said before, I'm sure it'll start getting more available as Fed/Vista get caught up.
Seems like maybe it's another one of those regional things where some parts of the country are feast but others are famine; even within a state, what we saw with primers and some household goods was, one region is flush but a couple of hours down the highway is dry. I'm hoping Vista/Alliant decides it's still worth their time to produce canister powders and primers for reloading but I'm thinking their business model may be changing. That's really the point of this thread: is Vista going to convert Alliant to in-house production only and they won't be in the handloading powders supply business any more - or very, very limited, when they do.

Oh man I hope they keep making them. So far Alliant powders and Fed GM primers have been great performers in all of my rifles. I've gotten to where they're my preferred components.....

I haven’t even been looking for powder in a couple years so I have no clue what the stock looks like locally. That said I start looking for another #8 jug of BE-86 or another #4 jug of Bullseye once I open the next to last one in stock here at home. I’m only using Be-86 and Bullseye for pistol but I still have a couple pounds of Unique, H335, varget, and AA2460 from some trial testing years back, and a couple jugs of BL-C(2) that I got cheap for 223.

I could get along on those two choices just fine. Give me some unique 2400 and they ar comp and I'd be good

Kinda weird. I can understand if Vista as Alliant decides to fill ammunition orders first but, that’s not typically affected canister products. Those aren’t typically used for boxed ammo.
I didn't say they were powders most folks would use, kinda like how the the only hodgdon's powders are clays and superformance ;)

Since reloading supply companies are not so forthcoming about the availability situation, it leaves an opening for speculation. It seems logical that supplies are dedicated to the support of the most popular semi-auto pistol and rifle ammunition. A major part of that could be the millions of rounds that government agencies ordered a few years back. That is not military, so I figure civilian supplies could be significantly impacted, if not interrupted. Somebody will be along thinking they know better, but what we think we know doesn't add up.

Yeah, but then we'd all be reading the same 8 threads over and over about people not finding primers or needing data they could easily find with a quick online search.

There used to be a Alliant factory rep that would post online here every so often?? Does that mean he is no longer employed or even worse???

Just because powder is not available )gee who would imagine" doesn't mean the company is out of business. If that was the case lots of companies would be no longer around. Crazy!

20210818_171601.jpg Got a pic of the numbers on the Bullseye. I got some Blue dot too. As a surprise from the family for my B-day. The numbers in the by the CE are really strange. Pic came out blurry on it. I'll take one later. I had a busy day im beat. I got a good pic of the B.D. it was bugging me lol.

I believe 0519 and 0163 are the label numbers. The lot number is to the right of that: 156 X 05116 and I can’t make out the other. I also can’t find the link to the lot number dates for Alliant. I will try again on a desktop. This smartphone screen is too small for my eyes.

Yes. Alliant does lot #, letter, production date in mm/dd/yy format.

The CE 0519 is common across different powders.

0519 is the number for our original notified body (for CE assessment and approval), however we have had to move to another notified body 0163 since Brexit. You should see CE 0163 CE mark on all recent production.
Yes, our lot number is first, then shift code letter, then pack date.
And yes, we are still in business and shipping large amounts of powder. As dry as the market is for powder right now, plus all the other various forces acting on the supply side, it may seem like we are not shipping because local shelves are thin/bare. We wish we could increase production to sate everyone's appetites right now, but that is not feasible and open to debate (by me anyway).
Please be patient, as we are in this for the long haul. Like TP and other various household supplies that caused panic last year, powder, primers and ammo production/supply will catch up to demand... eventually.
Thank you to those that buy our powders.

First off, thanks for the response.

Part of my concern comes from the fact that I remember when Hercules became Alliant and Winchester was bought by Hodgdon. Sometimes ownership changes also bring name changes but not always - and sometimes board changes bring policy changes and new boards of directors decide to pursue their own agendas at the cost of the consumer and the business. Thus my query: Is Alliant still in (the business of selling reloading supplies) or have the new board and new ownership decided to give up on that market? There are people on the boards of some very large and powerful companies who have agendas detrimental to the corporate business model. We, the shooting sports community, have been stabbed in the back by corporate boards before, so you understand my suspicions.

Thank you for responding and assuring us that old stock which had been held up for various reasons is being shipped to retailers and new stock is on the way to distributors. I am a life-long fan of Unique, Bullseye, Red Dot, and 2400. Those are and have always been my "go-to" powders.

It gets curious though when powder snagged from a recent restock of ExtraLite at Powder Valley bears a "19" suffix.
Even more curious - not suspicious (edited - sorry, wrong word) - that a new powder bought at retail this month was made in 2016 - two "panics" ago.

I contacted Alliant and they said they are shipping to 30 distributors nationwide on a regular basis. They sell according to oldest order first.
And they would not give out any more info than that. Who their products are sold to is up to the distributors. I personally bought some Bullseye a few months ago and have seen Unique and 20/28 available on a few web sites.
