i've had hundreds of 30s but only ever used antique colt mfg 20 rounders for CMP/NRA HP competition.

unless someone has a better idea, I'll just buy a few magpul gen 3 pmag 20s. they seem to be half the price of the colt 20s.

anyone have any suggestions? known issues with pmags and anything funky like OAL with high BC bullets?

the sole reason for downloading to 20 from 30 is to take a lower prone position.

They are hard to find as they have gone out of business and/or been absorb into Okay but I love the old NHMTG straight 20rd magazines. I like the Lancer 20rd magazines too. Magpuls are OK but I have found others I like better.

For my 300 BO subsonic (won't fit in a normal 556 magazine) I have had good luck with the D&H 300 BO specific magazines.

Nothing wrong with Mag-pul 20's. I bring them to the range; I can shoot them from the bench, and they encourage frugality when I let others fire my AR.

The 20 rounders I have are all metal. A few from Brownells that I swapped magpul followers into and a couple of curved 20rnd ASC S/S ones, one of which has been my dedicated range mag for a few years now. I have a 10 round magpul mag, it works fine but it doesn't see much use.

I like the Brownells 20s but can't speak to their performance with long OAL bullets. For 55gr blasting, they look great and feed fine.

I use 20 rd PMAGS. We also used them in my unit back when we had the MK12 rifles to keep the mag from hitting the ground. The PMAGS were available cheap, so that's what the unit bought for us. We used Black Hills MK 262 ammo (77 grain 5.56).

I like 20 rounders as well.

I have had good luck with my old Colt magazines and the Magpul 20's.

That, +1...

It's funny, everyone loves 30rd'ers... until they try to shoot off the bench, or prone. "Here, you can borrow one of my 20's..." Funny how I never get one back.

Buddy of mine bought one of the Magpul 40rd AR mags... I think he's used it once.

Even when I was in the Army, I always carried a 20rd mag locked, even if I had 30's in my pouch.

Okay Surefeed are my favorite.....20 or 30. Nothing wrong with polymer mags and I own some Pmags, but they're not my preference.

I have a few 20 round PMAGs. Getting some 20 round OK Surefeeds are on my list too. Honestly I use 10 round mags more than anything else, it makes me wonder why I have 2 boxes full of 30 round mags still in the packaging.

I can't say I've ever really had a problem with any AR-15 magazine, so I don't know about " Best " but my favorite or the Gen 2 p Max. The straight ones. I only had one before they changed styles and then I mangled that one trying to make it feed blackout better. Keep it around and it works okay except the follower tries to spring out once it is empty. If I ever see anybody with one at the range I'm going to offer to trade them whatever magazine I have with me and $5 for theirs

I have 15 x Colt,Okay,NHMTG and Brownells 20 rounders. 1 x Magpul 30,which came with the carbine, I have never loaded it with a round, but I do have a few of their 10 rounders which I do use

I have some PMag 20 rounders and some of the Brownells straight body aluminum 20 rounders. Both work fine for me, I actually prefer 20 rounders for using w/ a bipod or a shooting rest. I own like 3 or 4 30 rounders and the rest are 20 rounders.

Have used Colt's, no-name metal 20's, PMags and Lancers.

They all work, but I prefer the Lancer Translucent Smoke. IMHO, they take the best characteristics of the metal and polymer mags and incorporate it into one great magazine.

Most of my AR mags are 20s. Magpuls, GI straight 20s from OKAY, Surefeed & Brownells, Lancers, CPDs, and D&H. They all work fine. These are for a lot of variant calibers, for 5.56 I mostly use transparent Lancers so they don’t get confused with .300bo.
