First time buying "firearm" online

Generally $25 around here for a transfer. If I waited in my small town for some things to show up I would never get to try them.

FFL transfers run $30-50 in my neck of the woods. There's one little gun shop I like where I recently bought a nice S&W 15-2 for a good price and NO transfer fee. He's overstocked with used guns and his regular customers are more interested in plastic semis and rifles than revolvers. It's a place you never know what you might find as they occasionally have old revolvers on consignment or taken in on trades. It's a old comfortable place to go which is rare these days here. I do use GB when I'm looking for something older and hard to find in a LGS.

He's doing transactions from home and on the side and not a business.
Now it makes sense. He's basically a hobbyist who's using the free transfers to bolster the number of his transactions in an effort to show the ATF that he's a bona fide dealer. Otherwise, offering free transfers is not a viable business model. Actual dealers would use transfers as an additional profit center. (Increasingly so, given the changing nature of the industry.)

When the ATF inspector looks at his "bound book," it won't show if a profit was made. Only an impressive number of transactions. The purchases for himself (really, why he's doing this) will pale into insignificance compared to the total.

We did the papers at a bar/grill located in a sports club which is 2A related so that makes sense as a side gig. He works the bar there. If I recall correctly, FFL dealer have access to certain firearms, privileges and such that a person without wouldn't. ATF requires a certain amount of transactions for a period of time to make it a legitimate business and not for personal gains. At least that's that I recall reading when I was considering getting an FFL license.

as an example being a class 3 dealer, you have access to new full auto firearms and NFA items. ATF can follow up and say hey, you have a bunch of these NFA items but yet you haven't sold much if any ---> therefore you're using the FFL as a personal gain.

This could be a problem. An FFL dealer can only conduct business (make the actual transfers) at (a) his licensed premises, or (b) a recognized gun show. ATF frowns on itinerant dealers peddling guns out of their cars, at bars, etc. It seems like that would be a good way to lose a license. Maybe the sports club was his licensed premises? Where did you physically pick up the gun?

I've bought quite a few guns online. All of them are LGS to someone as they are retail establishments with an online presence. I actually bought one online with pick up in person option since the online sale wasn't listed in store.

Kentucky gun co. Has done me right on five purchases to date. The notify me when available has worked perfectly. I would say even though I'm Charlotte nc.. I primarily support them in my new firearm purchases.
I have purchased at hyatts in Charlotte with their online pickup for best pricing. I've also purchased at Blackstone in Charlotte which caught me off guard as most times they are on the very high pricing. They had a sale on a VP9 that was a very fair deal and fit my wife's hand.

Around here it's $15-35. I choose my transfer FFL based on customer service, not price. It's worked out well for me and every gun/lower I've bought online has been a smooth process. You can save a lot of money and get exactly what you want when buying online. Glad to hear things went smooth. Enjoy!

It's a gun club and I assure there are no alcohol served there. it's just common sense. Bar is for food only.
