My LGS has one that im tempted on just because I really want an old lever action, they are offering it to me for $750. It seems functional and appears to be original or all really old. It's in a caliber I know little of, id prefer 30-30 since I have ammo and its more common. It's not a flawless gun, but part of me will regret passing on something so old that's probably just going ro keep going up in value.

Talk me into it or out of me

What are you going to use it for? .25-20 is a cool little round (at least I think so), I don’t have any, but I wouldn’t hesitate just because of the chambering. Of course, I would just be getting it for the coolness, not for bear hunting. If you want it for bear hunting, don’t get it.

Range fun only and to have an old rifle

I grew up shooting my grandfathers 25-20, and have a real soft spot for this classy little cartridge.
And have looked for a replacement for his for decades. Perhaps i will run into one
You may have guessed ....my vote is hell yea snap it up.

Howdy

I have a Winchester Model 1892 chambered for 25-20.

Sorry, I don't seem to have a photo of it.

A nice little cartridge, no where near the power of a 30-30. Don't forget, 30-30 was always loaded with Smokeless powder, and 30 gains of the old Semi-Smokeless powder packed considerably more punch than 20 grains of Black Powder, which is what 25-20 was originally loaded with.

P.S I have a Marlin Model 1894 chambered for 44-40. Originally made around 1895. No blue left on it, and the bore is pitted, but it still shoots great.

25-20 is a sweet little cartridge. Good for small game and pest control at iron sights range, and you could use it on a deer in a pinch with good shot placement. It’s also quieter compared to other .22 class centerfire rounds.

Check the bore well! I have found alot of .25-20 s have bad bores A very fun cartridge and cheap to reload for they love cast bullets !
