No print for permit here.
I was printed for my job with a government agency. I don't recall them doing it again for a security clearance, but I was amazed how high in the bureaucracy it went to get somebody to listen to: "It's not OUR Watson that is wanted for failure to appear on a marijuana charge."

Brings back 'Citizen of the Galaxy'; "Baslim, get in here. Take off your shoes."

I see what you did there. I saw it before the end of line 2. Were you sitting on the group W bench when you heard this story?

Thats right, sitting right there on the the Group W bench, with mother rapers, father stabbers, .....and father rapers!

After seeing all the 8 by 10 color glossies with the circles and arrows and numbers of the garbage....
OP, I think what you might be thinking of is a court decision, I THINK happened was a FELON cannot be compelled to REGISTER his firearm, because that would violate his Constitutional rights against self incrimination. I think that was a SCOTUS case quite a while back. However, voluntarily providing them is on you. Here in AZ and other Constitutional Carry starts we no longer need permits to carry concealed or openly. On the other hand due to my various employments, I have MANY fingerprint cards on file with a whole lot of agencies. Not planning on breaking any laws, so I am OK with it for now. ;)

Your thought was right: Haynes v. United States, 390 U.S. 85 (1968)

I have been fingerprinted numerous times for my CDL and one time the State of Mississippi lost my prints and had to take them again. So somewhere out there in cyberspace is my fingerprints. So I guess I could be framed by my lost prints??

As of 1/1/22. IL-ANNOY will be starting to take fingerprints for the Firearm Owner's ID card (aka FOID) but for now, it will be voluntary. IIRC, it will be mandatory in two years. Naturally, there is an additional cost as well as a limited number of locations where these "live scan" prints can be taken. :fire:
The FOID in necessary to buy or even possess ammunition or firearms in IL-ANNOY, so, if you live near a border, get your ammo elsewhere. ;)

Fingerprints that are submitted on the blue FBI cards are run through IAFIS (Integrated Automatic Fingerprint Identification System). One could assume that submitted FBI print cards, especially first-time prints, are archived and maintained in the national database.
