For the first time this year I shot some clays with the family and the results weren't good. Shooting results were acceptable but the pain results weren't. I'm shooting the Stoeger M3020 with a Pachmayr recoil pad and have been very happy with it's performance.
In the last 2 years I've developed pain in my shoulder and neck that has become increasingly difficult to deal with. I've seen a surgeon about my shoulder but was told to get my neck fixed first so I see the surgeon for that on Thursday. Sounds like rehab is going to take some time so checking options now.
My Question is what is available for a semi-auto 20ga with the least recoil. From what I'm reading a gas operated gun is the way to go. I'm 71 and want to continue shooting with the family. Thinking of something new in the $500 to $700 range and prefer wood trim.
Thanks for any insight you can offer.
P.S.
Is the TriStar Viper G2, Mossberg SA20, and the Weatherby sa-08 the same gun?

The M3020 is an inertia-driven gun, so that explains the recoil pain. The Tri-Star Raptor is an A300 clone, The ViperG2 is an A391 clone. At least the Viper looks like an A391 clone. Either will be less painful than the M3020. The Raptor in 20 ga. is very mild shooting, an 1100LT 20 is the only other one I'd consider to be light shooting.
I bought a Raptor in 20 ga. for the 4-H Trap program when I was a leader, and I was impressed with the low recoil, which is what I bought it for. We had kids bringing in Dad's duck gun which was way too long, and way too painful for them to shoot.

The SA-08 and SA-20 are very similar but I do not believe they are the same shotgun. I’ve never seen a Tristar in person but have read enough about them that I wouldn’t feel hesitant to buy one.

I have four 20 gauges, two SX3’s, an SA-08 and a Franchi Affinity. By the use of shims and gunsmithing they all have the same fit.
The Affinity has the most recoil as expected since it’s an Inertia shotgun. The SA-08 is number two in the felt recoil department with the SX3’s in first place for least recoil. SX3 betters the SA-08 in least recoil strictly because it is heavier. In your shoes and within your budget OP I’d get a Mossberg or Tristar and add weight to it.

cbd1 thank you for your input. It's always good to hear from someone that has first hand experience with guns that I'm considering and very much appreciate everyone's thoughts.

Good subject and replies as I've been wondering similar questions as you.

The Mossberg SA20 turkey gun looks interesting to me even though, IMO, its not visually appealing.

Yes it is,,,,, along with 5 screws.

It bridges from the foot to about the 2nd knuckle of the big toe

I have had 2 SA-08's 12 and 20 they are ok but a used Beretta a300 or 391 would be my choice if I could find one.

After seeing a surgeon I've been told that I will have to have 3 vertebrae fused in my lower neck and a bone spur removed from my shoulder. That being said I'm guessing it will be sometime next summer before I'm shooting again. :(

I've started four grandkids out with a standard weight 1100 20. Stocks in three different lengths and a mod and skeet barrel. Kick, not much. An A400 Beretta, in told, is about like a 410. I shot the A400 Extreme I won last winter with trap loads and I think my 1100 12 trap kicks less
