This target was shot in 1984, but I don't think it was posted here. The 4 new strikes were shot by my two granddaughters in their teens, standing, leaning against the back of my covered pickup body, shooting at this "braced" ram, 182 yards away. Two shots each from my .223 Rem 700 VLS with handloads, standing...shooting off a single sandbag.

To my knowledge, neither had fired a centerfire before, but I'd given them brief rimfire instructions that day. I'd like to think that there may have been something in their genes, but I'm impressed.

The younger one is now a base guard in the Air Force. The elder recently graduated from college and just employed by a national company this week. (This grandfather is both impressed and proud of both...for all their efforts/abilities.)

Impressive, your instructions must have been on point. My granddaughter is nine, they bought a Ruger Precision Rimfire mainly for her, she is pretty good with it.

I used to teach shooting mostly to teens. Girls in general were better students and often outshot the boys. To much, I know how already, from boys.

My experience as well. Having taught many, many youth to shoot. The girls (in most cases) will be out-shooting the boys in short order.

Owing to the fact..they will take instruction and follow it. The boys (especially teens to early twenties) act as is they came down the birth canal ALREADY KNOWING how to Shoot/Spit/Cuss/Rope and Ride.

They might go on to become better shots....only because the females lose interest. But the ladies tend to have better fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination...which is a plus. Given the same amount of training....girls easily keep up with the boys...if not surpass them.

My Daughter...by the time She was 12 yrs old...could outrun me on the 'Race Rack' and 'Pepper Poppers', both of us shooting .45acp.

Her rifle skills (rested/braced) equal to mine at the same time.

Just a couple of years ago...she went long range shooting with my Brother and I. Previously, she had not shot past 500 yards. We let her shoot at 750 and 1,000 yds. to 'warm up'. She didn't miss any of those 10 shots.

We were shooting at a bit over 1 mile at a 16" x 16" steel target (you can't even see it with the naked eye). It was a horribly windy day, but she hit it on her 6th try (having to adjust for wind drift). Girls can shoot just fine.

Congrats on two fine young granddaughters. My oldest granddaughter is more of a book worm, and a straight A student. She's off to college on a full scholarship. I wish she was interested in shooting. Youngest just moved near us so there's hope. Where is your granddaughter in the Air Force stationed? I did 4 years in the AF, mostly at Mather AFB in California. It's closed now.

I have also found the girls tend to shoot better than boys at the same level of development. The boys think they know everything which unfortunately they learn from watching tv.

Girls tend to be better shooters, as well as much better instructors.

Pity they're far and few in between, at the NRA Basic Pistol Courses we need for our concealed pistols.

I have friends that have daughters that shoot really well. Good enough that they could shoot better than the boys that they dated or married!

Yeah, my wife shoots a Ruger Bearcat better than me. The grips are too small for my large hands and the gun tends to twist a lot.

My wife can out shoot me by a mile. My daughter could care less. My niece is a work in progress. But she is only 4 so I have time lord willing!

With a pistol that doesn't kick incredibly hard my wife is a better shot than me. With a rifle she can shoot just fine to even well. I'm a better rifle shot by far but I've had much more training and practice.

The girls may also have their grandmother's shootin' genes. She won a turkey with my .22-250 at 100 yards, lying on the ground and resting the rifle over a log. It was the only shot she took, beating out 10 other shooters (all males) with a PERFECT pinwheel. That's the only shot she ever took in competition and we did it on a bet.
