New demand signals

FWIW, I imagine they’ll do exactly that: simply move it to a friendly nation and re-brand it.

China does this with honey.
“Friendly” is a relative term. There’s a particular NATO member nation which has been buying, trading, maybe even smuggling, Russian Federation arms and equipment for use against NATO “allies” and getting away with it. That same NATO Ally has been shipping commercial firearms and supplies to the United States for many years, undercutting domestic product. Just some food for thought while we’re discussing supply chains.

Ha! Agreed. I almost put single quotes around friendly in that post.

‘friendly’

I havent been ammo aware very long but your position is well supported by the amount of Norma. I have never seen norma on the shelf until recently. I believe it's a good quality product and at a decent price.

I have. I was just at a Scheels store here in the midwest and they had Norma .22 ammo in 500 round bricks. I must strongly disagree with your statement about it being a decent price. It was $99.99. Needless to say, I didn't buy any.

Does that nation pair well with a side of mash and gravy?

I was also not impressed with the box of 50 22s for 10 dollars. Value in good reloading brass is lost on rimfire.

The ban is based on existing permits slowly expiring. Not a drop dead date. Therefore, the industry has more than enough time to rearrange their production to acceptable nations and then reapply for exportation from there.

If anything their imports were a response to how hard it is in our own country to deal with the laws, regulations, agencies, and political backstabbing that kept ammo manufacturing at such a low output. Fix that and Russian imports would have a much harder time even on a flat playing field.

Very well-spoken. I've struggled to try to explain the gradual changes.

But many people here, on TheFiringLine, even AK Files simply read others' comments (not questioning anything), see at as a sudden, all-inclusive blockade of ammo imports from Russia. >> As if it has already happened <<.

I'm still a little skeptical whether the State Dept's wording "will be Subject to denial" wasn't worded as, i.e. "..Will be denied", because the word "Subject" can have several meanings.
Even a little skepticism doesn't blind us to what they probably will do.

That's what 500 for $100 breaks down to. I guess buying in bulk doesn't help at all.
Not to sound too old, but back in my day, .22 ammo could be bought for a dollar for 50 rounds. I thought it was really bad when it doubled all the way to $2.

Another "deal" I saw at Scheels was a bucket of 9mm roundnose. It was 350 rounds for $150, which is just under $21.50 per 50. Should be closer to $10 for something like that, but at least they weren't charging $100 per 50. That's what they'd be charging if they raised 9mm the same as they did .22.

Today in shoot point blank a box of 50 45acp was 37 dollars. I'm talking low grade target ammo. These people have lost their minds. I shot 70 rounds and shiver at the value of that ammo flying down range. My cost was not even close.

Had to go into the city so I stopped by Bass Pro. They have Winchester 40gr .22LR for $38/300. Blazer aluminum 9mm for $28/50. The only reloading supplies were a few odd Hornady hunting in 100rnd boxes and Berry’s 115gr plated 9mm $120/1000. I didn’t look any further than that.

That price just about gives me a heart attack, doesn't seem so long ago when I was buying a case ( 5,000 rnds ) for $105.00, bought 3, traded 1, bought ten more, went thru a divorce, of course she got custody of them, cheaper than paying her alimony!!!

Prior to WW2 " our " US steel companies were selling millions of tons of steel to HITLER, talk about playing both sides against the middle, with the middle getting FILTHY RICH?? All with FDR'S blessing, wonder why I DESPISE the Democrat party????

And now I'm watching Hurricane Ida projections; it's pointed straight at me. Oh well,... at least I don't have to worry about working o_O, although I could USE a break.
well, Ida did a number on us here. I'm in the Baton Rouge area, probably not far from GunnyUSMC or whatever his name is. Hope he's good, he lives a bit to the East of me... and the further East you go, the more the eye of the storm hit the area. He's a frequent poster, so I'm sure people know the name.
First time able to post since the storm hit.

Funny thing, I ordered some steel 308 from a couple vendors before the prices rose, and obviously before the storm. The ammoempire order shipped and came a couple days before it hit; the global ordnance order took a couple days to ship, and now is in limbo at some fedex site in another state.
