18650 holy crap

Please note, I have not bought any of the used 123’s (bought heavy with Surefire). On the 18650’s, B&H has a great return policy, if needed.

If you go in with reduced expectations, maybe you end up with some outstanding practice / screwing around batteries - saving the full boat retail batteries for real life.

I have been using 18650 lights for about 3 or 4 years now. Much more output and life than CR123s can get. Both HD weapons and my EDC light are 18650s. The only downside is, a handgun light is pretty impractical using the same battery.

I noticed your signature line. A professor at a liberal arts college in California who's into guns? That must be rarer than rocking horse crap. Hats off to you!

(i assume that refers to Jaffa, who he attributes teh quote to. he's not describing himself)

@taliv nailed it - just citing the quotation. No academia for me

Just a plain Jane Streamlight TRL-1 on the bottom of my BCM HD (former patrol) rifle. with the carbine length hand guard it is easy to reach the toggle switch.

It certainly doesn’t shine with anything near the intensity of the OP’s light, but across the furthest reaches of my dark garage (it is roughly 50 feet from the light lens to the garage door) it lights it up well enough to see who or what is there.

Stay safe.

yep, my light is WAY too much for indoors. have to be careful not to blind yourself

Chapstick or Vaseline on the lens and all that crap will wipe right off after every range trip. No need to move the light, although the finish may get some abuse after awhile if that matters.

"My concern is that the lens will get covered and caked up with the grey carbon from the muzzle and I’ll have to clean it every time I shoot.

so my question is, does someone make a sacrificial lens or maybe something like a disposable phone screen protector that could be used to protect the rather expensive head?"

Anybody make clear scope caps that small?
