anyone got any stories to share? Hunts, loads, experiences? I was looking to get into this calibre and load lighter levels, subsonics and so forth. Was thinking unique would be a go to powder for this. Not a great deal of reduced load data out there. People obviously buy this calibre to run it heavy. Thanks for any links or comments.

For myself I don't download my 480, I just shoot my 44 mag if I want less but here's Jeff Quinn's article on loading 480 he has a mild load with Unique listed. IMHO Unique is the Goldilocks for cast midrange performance.

Unique, HS6 and Longshot are 3 of the more common less than max powders. What bullets are you using?

Probably 275 barnes XPB, 275 grain speer and 325 XTP. Jacketed as such but not overly heavy. Later Id like some heavier cast bullets or HP. btw fellas is this a lot more gun than a 44mag power, effectiveness, blast wise?

Surprised you can find any. The Barnes and Speer sites have some load data listed. I have only shot cast both solids and hp If he still has any I would jump all over the MP 640 style up mold. It is impressive as well as NOE hp mold but it is a bit lighter bullet even the Lee 400 grain is a good bullet.
It is much more gun than the 44 magnum or at least it can be as far as a hunting round. It throws heavy bullets easily and the beauty is you do not have to push them hard. Barnes need to impact at about 1000 FPS to open properly according to a couple techs I talked to. I cannot remember on the Speer.

I have both a 475L and a 480R. I find myself shooting far more 480R than 475L.

The 480R is easily capable of taking anything in North America.

Loads for both are abundant. I prefer cast bullets for most applications, and just about everyone makes a few flavors, pick a few and go experiment. That’s the fun in the big-big bores.

Thanks for the info. As to projectiles a guy I know selling a gun has some projectiles going with it.

Didn’t think to ask what platform yours is, mine is the SBH Bisley. The 2 biggest complaints I have with are the cylinder throats step up way to fast, going to have to have that fixed, and the bisley grip doesn’t have near the knuckle clearance I need and after a few rounds even when taped my knuckle hurts for several days. The BFR bisley is great for heavy recoil as I have a 500 Linebaugh in it and it is
Much more pleasant to use.
The MP 477-640 bullet, with a large hp comes in powdercoated and plain based at about 385 +\- but at around the 1000 FPS mark will blow through a moose according to many accounts.
