I walked into Bass Pro this evening to look at a scope, but never made it there. In the used gun rack outside of the Fine Gun Room the FGR attendant had just put out a Remington 572 Fieldmaster. It was priced at $249.99, so, figuring that was probably an okay deal I loaded up the credit card.
Any 572 Fieldmaster aficionados out there that have anything bad, good or great to say about these little pumps? And, just for kicks, what might be the date of manufacture of this one? The serial # is A141xxxx. The stamp on the left side of the barrel is pictured. Thanks. 20210908_000445.jpg

I have one. I really like it.

This one is from ‘82, I beat it by two years.:)

I had one... loved the little thing. I gave it to my nephew, who still has it.

I don't think I really found an ammo that it really liked, however, so I'd only rate the accuracy as mediocre.

My experience is they are like Kimbers. If you get a good one, hang onto it. My Dad didn't (I grew up shooting his 572 with a K2.5 on it-potent squirrel medicine!) That gun was very accurate for a sporter .22.
As old men are wont to do, he bought another one out of nostalgia, and it had problems. So did the one after that. He then gave up on that bit of nostalgia, and bought a Win. Model 12, which he is now selling to pay for the Win. 70 Featherweight he just bought.

I saw a customers Remington factory smoothbore once. I think it was a 572. It was made with no rifling for 22 shot cartridges.
sorry all info I have on it.

I bought a 572 brand new at a Husky gas station/sporting goods store in Moscow, Idaho back in 1972. It was $65.00. It shot everything, albeit not very accurately, but it worked. As I recall, the finish was so-so and it was a fairly plain stock. Sold it to a neighbor 25 years later for more than it cost. Honestly, I don't think I'd want another - it struck me as a very budget-oriented rifle, even back then. But... everyone likes something different, and it worked just fine.

I have a 572 I use for armadillos around the house, fastest thing I have for .22 rounds that won’t cycle in semiautos.

They made them in different grades, my 552 “deluxe” is quite a bit prettier than my standard 572.

I have had mine since 1980. Not a target gun. It is a fine rifle in the field, holds lotsa 22 shorts, great with cb caps. Reliable and with a lpvo fairly accurate. I shoot mainly Rem Yellow jackets and viper ammo in it. I LOVE mine!!!!

As others have said, absolutely NOT a target gun.

These are by far NOT the most accurate .22s around. But when accuracy is secondary, they are acceptably decent .22s if you don’t set your standards too high.

I like the Model 572 but I love the Model 141. The pictured Model 141 must have been used for high-velocity ammunition, given the massive recoil pad it wears. ;)

Ha.

Ot had this oogly red one when I got it. The stock had been cut so I put the best one on that fit my LOP the best.

Other than that it is a super clean rifle.

I had one, and foolishly swapped it off a couple years ago. It had a Marbles bullseye sight on it, and I could hit running squirrels with it no problem. They are a great rifle, not as accurate as some others I have, but good enough to get meat. I used shorts mainly, lot quieter in the woods, and I didn't have to carry spare ammo! :D

So, I guess people either love them or hate them. I shot this one last week at 25 yards and it seems to be minute of pop can more or less. It would probably be better for me with a scope as I just can't see as well as I used to be able to. I'll shoot it again soon then decide whether or not I'll keep it. There's a Savage MK II FV-SR coming in to the shop that I've been wanting, so, maybe there's a trade coming up.

I owned the 552 autoloading model, briefly.

Despite being touted as being able to fire .22 shorts, I found that the magazine almost wouldn’t accept them. Trying several varieties of CCI and Aguila shorts, the tube magazine always hung up badly when loading even when twisting it.

I even replaced the entire magazine tube assembly with an older one and experienced the same issue. I shrugged my shoulders and got rid of the gun. Also it did not reliably fire even Aguila Extra shorts even when I did get a few in there.

Remington’s older Nylon 66 is a much better design IMHO. I’ve got three.
