Over the last week I have been trying several different guns for pocket carry. This is in honor of the new Texas constitutional carry law. So far from my selection I have carried a 442 in 38 special, a 431PD in 32 mag, Beretta 950 Jetfire 25acp and a Ruger EC9. Of all the Jetfire is hands down the easiest to carry. The EC9 is flat and fits well in a pocket but just doesn't slide in and out as slick as the snubby guns.

So I would like to hear what you guys have on you. Please don't turn this into a caliber war. Mention what caliber of your gun if you want but no put downs on others choices please.

I am also considering getting a Ruger LCP II in 22lr. I admit to being a fan of the 22lr for civilian use.

I am trying to stay away from belt carry and IWB. There is enough in my waistband now without shoehorning a gun in there too.

Price may be an issue, but my SIG P938 is an awesome pocket 9mm carry pistol. I have a Viridian Laser on it as my eyesight ain't what it used to be.

IMHO carrying as much gun as you can is a no-brainer.

I just recently upgraded from a S&W Shield 40 to a Hellcat for appendix carry -- .40 to 9mm is a loss but 7 to 12 rounds and a bit less size and weight s a win.

I stopped pocket carry only. After my son timed me on some practice drills. I will if i feel i may need a back up gun. I like my little .380 specturm. It conceals well under my shirt. It's well broken in. And i can shoot it well. I load hard cast lead BHN 18 for it. It goes through a 1lb propane bottle. So im confident it will penetrate a heavy jacket in the winter too. If needed.

I pocket carried the Ruger LCP 22 as a BUG for a while. Pocket carry isn’t comfortable for me and drawing is slow-ish. It’s a tiny gun so I can’t imagine much else working any better in a pocket. There are some nifty, tiny little belt holsters for the LCP that hold it high and tight and very concealed. Just a thought.

Rule one of the gun fight: Have a gun!

Second. if it comes down to quick draw, concealed carry will loose every time. Having a gun and situational awareness so you have the gun in hand when needed is your only real option if you can't open carry, and open carry has the "shoot me first!" problem when SHTF.

Yes you are correct. In one of the Lucky Gunner vids I watched on the LCP he used a DeSantis King Tuck holster I really liked. But I can't find it on their website. It looked doable for an "in the waistband" holster.

When I have to pocket carry, due to circumstances.
Sig Sauer P938 extreme .... Works great in a Desantis #4 pocket holster.
Had to add some black duck tape to the holster as the sights caught on the edging.

I pocket carry a P365 in a Nemesis when the weather is warm, OWB Urban Carry Lock Leather when the weather is cooler. Sometimes around the house or working I'll pocket carry a little NAA Black Widow.

In live in Ca now, for the next 298 days. So, I don’t carry but do legally keep my S&W 442 nearby all the times as I am always planning to go to the range. ;)

Anyway, when I did carry in Oregon I mostly pocket carried my S&W 442 until I bought my Remington RM380. I pocket carried the RM380 with an extra magazine and I kept the 442 nearby either in a backpack or angle holster depending on circumstances or where I was heading.

I did try other guns for carry but I usually ended up with the 442 or the RM380. I no longer have the little Remington.

1st and most importantly, there is no such thing as "caliber war", nonsensical undefined "catch all" term.

I am able to dress as I choose, which includes a continuously untucked shirt.
That untucked shirt does a good job of hiding top half of my front pocket.
In my weak hand front pocket is a Sig 365, it affords the options of putting my hand on gun without revealing I'm carrying and quick access with weak hand.
Glock 19 AIWB nicely concealed by untucked shirt with print, plaid, pattern.
I live in hot FL in a "good area" and have no trouble carrying the 365 in weak hand front pocket and Glock 19 IWB, pictured (pants wrinkled due to wearing)

22 lr for SD? The goal of SD is to stop attacker(s) ASAP. Do you think a 22lr is the best option to achieve that goal? I don't.
Someone may be thinking "I'm glad I don't live in a "bad area" or where a 2nd gun is "needed" - neither do I.;)

I know people pocket carry 9mm's, but they must have far baggier pants than I do. Any time I've tried micro 9's for pocket carry (P938, LC9, PM9) I've found the gun fits OK, but in practice I've found trying to quickly pull it out with my hands around the grip turns my pocket into a chinese finger trap and the harder I pull the more stuck I get and the slower the draw is. Not something I want to happen in a high stress situation.

I like j-frames for pocket carry, but small 380's and .32's really shine here. I try to carry AIWB with a larger gun when I can, but when I can't I find my original LCP very comfortable to pocket carry and not horrid on the draw.

Mostly this Ruger LC9S Pro (no manual safety). It’s a thin single stack with an outstanding trigger. So light you hardly know it’s there. I have others that I carry some, a Taurus 85 UL and a Kimber Aegis Elite Ultra. thumbnail-IMG-0076.jpg

My current pocket carry pistols are my Remington RM380 and Taurus TCP732.

I would love to have a TCP 32acp. I had the TCP 380 and didn't shoot it very well because of the recoil of such a light weight gun and the long trigger pull. But it rode in a pocket extremely well. So did the Kel-Tec 32 I stupidly sold. I stuck that one in my pocket when I got it way back in 2005 and forgot it was there. I went out to eat at a restaurant and stuck my hand in my pocket and found the gun. Oops! I had no legal carry back then but no one ever knew I was armed. And I shot that gun pretty good.

I only pocket carry when I'm at work and I absolutely must have maximum concealment. I carry a G42 in the cargo pocket of my work pants.
