White House to withdraw controversial ATF nominee David Chipman known for gun control activism

Don't worry about Chipman, his Dentedness will give him a more prestigious job in the administration with more cash and perks.... In 2024 President Trump will make him the Ambassador to Afghanistan.

This got me thinking about the article describing a "gun violence" agency anti gun proponents asking the president to create. Now there is a perfect candidate to head it.

...Now, the question will be who they appoint as Acting Director, following the tradition of, now, 14 years' . . . .

I think this is a case of anybody who wants the job is so politically compromised they wouldn't stand up to scrutiny.

...Hopefully this will start a new trend of denying anti-constitution lobbyists federal appointments.

Agreed. We need to make sure our representatives know that we are aware and following what goes on in DC and how we feel about it.

We usually manage to avoid any clear politics - even when it's directly related to "gun politics" - intermixed for decades. Nothing can prevent some viewers' decisions to get out of bed every day, and be either hypersensitve or feast on a daily breakfast of 'mock outrage'.

When young, or much older people Google gun issues, nothing on THR is even a 'drop in the bucket' to what they already have immediate access to. The irony always seems rather stark, to say the least.
They can see unlimited gun politics on AR15.com, AKfiles, SKSboards and no telling how many dozens of pro-gun, anti-gun websites. >> These days, Nobody with a computer lives in a vacuum. <<

As for a back-up for the ATF, the search will now be far more productive if they find a suitable apparatchik who has been much more misleading and nebulous with past comments about gun issues.

Chipman was an enforcement agent (see his photos at Waco).

The overwhelming work at ATF is regulatory, dealing with regulation of legal commerce mostly of the lawabiding using guns for traditional and lawful purposes.

Like the gun control advocacy groups he worked with, he saw ordinary gun owners as the enemy.

Wrong man to head that agency.

But he did reflect current gun politics.

Glad he’s gone.......

About time that circus lost its lead clown.....
Is he really gone? Jen Psaki has already stated on the record they are in discussions with him regarding another role he can have in their administration. I don't believe he is truly gone at this point in time.

Hopefully, Arizonians will remember the Chipman/Mark Kelly connection when Kelly comes up for reelection in 2022.......

Sigh, okay, we'll do this again. It is not that we don't want politics on THR. It's that a lot of members do not have the ability to constrain their political discussion to the topic at hand. Discussion of a candidate's politics in direct relation to firearms and the 2nd Amendment is absolutely on topic. But we seem incapable of doing that. It always wanders into topics that are completely off topic for THR. For the purposes of THR, I don't care about the price of gas or their stance on abortion. Those things simply don't matter in the scope of THR. Why that is so hard to grasp escapes me.

THR maintains a standard or behavior not seen on many other forums. We expect our members to polite and civil, even in disagreement. That includes not using childish names to describe those we disagree with on the opposite political party, or stating that a politician looks a certain way, or any of the other childish things that are good for a laugh but add nothing to the discussion. It makes the job of the anti-gunner that much easier when we appear to be the illiterate hill billies and rednecks they claim we are.

In short, THR is the adult table. As pointed out above, there are many other sites that will allow you to do and say as you please. THR is not a good fit with everyone. But those that choose to stay are expected to abide by the rules. Which includes not going off topic with pointless political rants.

Ya, small victory, they will find another anti gun advocate with a cleaner record.
I would be surprised if the administration nominates anyone else for the permanent ATF directorship any time soon. They just have too much other controversial stuff they have to deal with right now. The option is to just let the "acting" director continue.

Concur with this assessment. One suspects that the ultimate goal is going all in on increasing the number of Supreme Court justices, so it's doubtful the current administration will risk any other (more "minor") appointments requiring Senate approval for quite a while.

When the current director is doing the bidding of the administration i.e. 2 recent proposals, WHY REMOVE THEM? The only reason I can come up with is possibly...worse stuff is planned , upcomingo_O

Exactly. The current ATF is doing what the administration wants anyway, so what does it matter?

Symbolism. Biden promised the antigun lobby that he would nominate someone to their liking to be permanent ATF director. Promise kept. I guess it doesn't matter that it was all Kabuki theater.

The fact that the nominee was so extreme (and therefore doomed in the Senate) lends credence to this theory.

It's cute watching the mods try to snip politics. As if that's possible anymore.

Guns, healthcare, air quality, cars, pan cake syrup, ammo price, ATF, FBI, CIA, 2nd graders making a paper hand turkey, even your gender, are all political now. Some hag sneered at me for buying Tang orange drink mix at a grocery store on my way to the range this morning.

Hopefully the ball keeps on rolling and the ATF figures out that their rulings only mean something BY OUR GOOD GRACES, not theirs. If they want the workload of millions of Americans that don't care, keep on selecting murderous fools like Chipman.

Seems like there's still some ATF guys on our side. Hopefully one of them gets bumped up into this role.

Good point.

Hopefully, this is a harbinger of the pistol brace ban proposal being dropped also. Biden really has so many other controversial things going on that I do not see why he would want to be responsible for the pistol brace ban 1 year from mid term elections.

It is a victory, at least for now. We have to look at it that way, as victories are very far and few between, now a days.

I wonder if Chipmans association with Waco was a decidedly bad look and forced them to reconsider the optics of that particular choice. It's OK to be a gun grabber, just not a gun grabber LEO from the horrific Waco scene. That wasn't a good look for the ATF/Feds and there are alot of people around who still remember and hold the feds accountable for Waco. It's interesting to think of what media depictions would like like if something like that happened present day. Probably wouldn't be alot of sympathy for the BD's and the ATF would be hailed as heros.

I'm glad Chipman is out, but you gotta wonder what's next. Also, Joe did say he had something in store for beto, Gun Czar or something? Is that even a thing?

No, he was a gun banner and didn't even know what he was talking about when being questioned by Senate Republicans. They knew he was a terrible choice.

Guns, healthcare, air...

I for one think they do a dandy job of it. Ever so often, well, working for FREE allows latitude I suppose. A ''like'' to the Mods statement was in order, whereas politics IS allowed as long as it's ...relevant. Relevant, not rant I suppose is the order of the day.

Speaking of day, have a great day:) !! It is a good day , THEIR nominee no matter what grey matter picked him, IS TOAST  PASS THE BUTTER PLEASE hehe:rofl:

As long as members act like adults, keep things focused, and steer clear of chest thumping hyperbole that adds nothing of value to the conversation, there is little work for us to do. But alas, some just can't help but air their spleen, so then we deal with it.
