Another Choice, From Kimber

The design of this Kimber is certainly taken from the BB-Techs BB6 and from the recent Taurus TS9 which in fact is an evolution of the BB6. The barrel, the slide, the striker housing, the breech in the slide and the frame of this Kimber are absolutely BB6.

It a good time if you are in the market for a new CCW. This video mentions that two more major manufacturers are getting ready to announce their newest versions. I would probably wait and see what those are, but the Kimber looks like it's going to do well.

In case some may be wondering at the continuity of the posts in this thread, here is the explanation:

Rather than have three separate threads discussing the same introduction of the Kimber R7, I've merged the threads. I'll also be merging any other threads that pop up when folks don't check if there is a pre-existing thread

If someone buys one and has an actual report on it, rather than internet speculation, that should go in a separate/new thread

I think you need to crawl out from under that rock you have been hiding under.. :neener:

The replacement to the Solo was a few years ago and works well. Look up the reviews for the EVO SP.
Course no one wants to hear or believe that Kimber makes one of the best striker guns on the planet.. :what:

Not dissing Kimber at all but I don't think he suggests a bad plan. I tend to believe it is better to wait for a new model to be out on the market for a while before purchasing. When I was a kid my dad was the Service Manger at a Ford dealer & he told me to never buy the first year of a new model car. It is better to let others beta test & find the flaws then buy the refined product after that process has taken place. In all honesty I have been bitten by not following this advice at times.

Exactly right. Kimber bought the design from Wilhelm Bubits about five years ago and then claimed that it didn't work so had to "redesign" it.

Taller, heavier and longer than a SIG P365 with one of the worst (most ignorant) customer service divisions in the industry .... no thanks.

Thanks, very interesting. I didn't know Kimber bought the project from Bubits. Do you know if Taurus has also bought the project from which the TS9 derives? Of course it would be curious if Bubits had sold the same project to two pistols manufacturers; perhaps it was not firstly acquired as an exclusive copyright project, so it can be sold to anyone that want to buy the rights.

I don't know whether Bubits sold the basic R7 design to other manufacturers but I can say unequivocally that a few years ago some Kimber personel attended the IWA show with the intention of buying another pistol design, but after meeting with Bubits decided to pursue his design instead. It was about five years ago that this happened.

Bubits either worked for GLOCK or consulted for them ... I forget which.

Yes, Bubits worked for Glock and then designed the Steyr M9, the failing Caracal F and the equally failing BB-Techs BB6.

Oh Look! Another "micro-Compact' ?with 12 round, but wait!! increase it to 14!
OH!, Optic ready so add a reflex sight. All for what. A personal up close self defense,

From a company with such stellar service!

It's a epidemic!

Speaking for the silent minority, I'm not interested in any striker-fired pistol that doesn't offer a manual safety. Other companies, including Springfield, Smith & Wesson, Ruger and SIG, offer a choice. Maybe Kimber eventually will too.

It is ugly as hell. And I am a Kimber guy most of the time. As far as sights are concerned, pistols shoot where you point. Guys that take time to aim get shot. If you have time to get a sight picture you should be seeking cover with that time.

I like how the optic can co-witness with the sights.
Looks like a Hellcat with a different slide/barrel lockup and take-down systems. My SIG Romeo Zero on my Hellcat co-witnesses with the factory iron sights. I've three pistols where the red dot and irons co-witness, I'm of the opinion that it is not worth the effort. I appreciate the idea of having the irons as backup, but if my old eyes could still use iron sights effectively I'd not be bothering with the expense of adding red dots!

I'm in agreement with you on that.

The first one to release a micro .40 S&W with 10-round capacity will be selling a ton of them. I loved my XDS 40, but not the 6 round capacity and bite of the narrow grip. It would a perfect candidate for one of these half-stack magazines with a slightly wider grip.

But, the Kimber doesn't offend me in any way. Not getting the Hi-Point comments unless they are triggered by the shrouded ejection port. But, lots of iconic pistols have used the shrouded ejection port.
