New Mossberg Maverick 88 receiver...Drilled and tapped?......

I have a new one and it is not drilled.

The new Maverick 88's still aren't drilled and tapped.

I had one with a mount that attached with a
bolt that replaced one of the pushpins that
held the trigger group, and one of the screws in the receiver.
IMO I don't think the relatively soft aluminium receiver would do well if drilled and tapped in the conventional sense

Mine wasnt, had to do it myself

The 500 and 590 use the same exact material for their receivers and they are drilled and tapped. I haven't had any issues with my 12 gauge 500 or 410 Shockwave with a mount and red dot installed. The main thing is to NOT over-torque the mounting screws and use some type of thread locker.

Part of the cost cutting in making the 88 is not D&T the receiver. My 88 is about 5 years old and I added a clamp on rail instead of tapping it myself.

Receiver is plenty fine to D&T. My maverick 88 slug gun had been for a few years, and has seen more than double it's value in slugs during that time.

Still pleasantly surprised my Simmons Prodiamond shotgun scope is still doing well lol, still sad they discontinued that line


OP if you don't want to D&T it yourself, I highly recommend taking it to a competent gunsmith. Normally only around 30-75$ plus parts, and done with considerable precision.

I just bought my second one brand new last month, the 7+1 shell model. Mine is not drilled and tapped.

They do make work-arounds that require no modification, but for the price you could likely just have a smith do it for you properly.

Mine is 3 years old and did not come drilled and tapped.
