I've only reloaded brand new brass. I'm on to step 2. Resizing. I have an RCBS lube die and I've noticed every time I apply some fresh lube to the die, the cases come out like this. (See pic) also I've noticed when they come out like this they are longer in the case gauge..... As the lube wears out the handle on the press becomes more stiff, but they fit perfectly in the case gauge. I can assume I'm using too much lube correct?

But the die has a sponge in it for lube..... So you don't have to lube the cases by hand. But thanks for the confirmation I assumed it was too much lube. I was just making sure. How much lube do we need on the cases? Can barely tell by touch or slippery?

....... Anything to save a step is good for me. I can go to the range and shoot paper or if I really want to have a good time it's pretty much a camping trip because it's a 2 hour drive from where I live to shoot outdoors legally..... Which isn't a very long drive unless you work 60 hours a week

Correct. The dents aren’t a problem, your case will fire form just fine. As to how much lube to use, just enough to prevent a stuck case. There’s no good way to measure this other than by feel during the sizing step. Don’t have a stuck case puller? Get one, it’s likely at some point you’ll have one and need it.
I switched to Imperial case wax just because I got tired of the lube mess, but to each his own. Good luck.

Like others have said too much lube. You only need lube in the lower 2/3 of the case, away from the shoulder and neck.

I looked at those lube dies decades ago and never pulled the trigger on one.

Depending on your time table for storage, I use imperial and just wipe the case off by hand after. This leaves a light coat on the case preventing tarnish and fingerprints. Some people polish their cases loaded but mine dont seem to need that.

I am lazier than most, I tumble cases inside a clean thumbler's tumbler barrel with a flannel square saturated in RCBS water soluble case lube. However, I have to wipe the upper third of the case before it goes into the sizer, or I will get lube dents such as the OP is showing. Turns out, if there is lube on the case, it moves up the taper.

Examining the pdf posted by @Rule3, the OP is going to have to experiment with the levels of lube saturation on the ring. Obviously, he has too much!

And as stated, the dents will shoot out.

I used the lube pad that came in the RCBS kit and RCBS lube, for years. An occassional dent from too much lube. Doesn't prevent loading and gets less frequent with experience.

Feeling the stiffness in the handle, indicating not enough lube, stop and lube. A stuck case is imminent.

Found Hornady One Shot. Thought it was the answer to the mess. It pretty good, but I have had 5 stuck cases. Never had one when using the lube pad.

I returned to the lube pad FOR BOTTLENECK CASES.
Hornady One Shot for straight wall cases, that I haven't got carbide dies for, even those get an occassional light squirt.

FWIW: I just put a "dab" on the first case, smear it on the case wall a bit w/ my fingers as I pick it up, and size....
Fingers retain enough lube for 4-5 cases thereafter, ... then another "dab"
;)
