So many to chose from on amazon.. and amazon is flooded woth chinese everything and repeats of the same item so it gets confusing.

I need a good recoil pad. The side by side german ww2 shotgun i have.. kicked the crap out of my shoulder/arm. After 30 rounds i gave up. And its red today.

My 1874 sharps 45-70 hurt as well. But that double barrel was something special in the pain category.

Pachmayr makes a large selection of different thickness, shape, color, size, stiffness ect.

Figure out the correct one for your application, measure your length of pull using the clothing you intend to use, have the stock cut for the LOP and pad you chose, and have the pad fitted to the gun stock you want it on.

It used to be cheap to have done, it is not anymore. If you are handy and have the right saw and grinder buy the pad fitting jig and do it yourself.

I like Limbsaver grind to fit pads . I also use a PAST pad like posted above , some rifles I do not want to modify with a recoil pad for various reasons .

I own both a PAST and SVL shoulder pad and neither is half as effective at mitigating recoil as a good butt pad. I do have several still wearing Pachmayr pads but whenever possible I choose SVL’s Limbsaver pads. The Airtech line is less tacky than the original.

the kick eez and limbsavers soak up the recoil the best, but I've found them kind of sticky. they collect lint and try to hang on my shirt when I mount the shotgun. Personally I prefer the pacmayrs.

Mind if I make a suggestion? A shoulder-worn recoil pad as opposed to a gun buttstock fitted recoil pad. After all, then you only need one, and it fits on you, not on the gun, which is probably a whole lot easier.

Personally, I find the "Limbsaver" buttstock-fitted pads to be too sticky.

Wiscoaster offers the best solution for your situation. Putting a modern recoil pad on the Gustloff is akin to putting electronic ignition on and old flathead Ford.

But if you are still determined to do it, I recommend Kickeez, Microcell, Pachmyr Decelerator, and Limbsaver.

Watch this. This is why my shoulder hurts haha.. well that didnt hurt too much.. but 30+ rounds through made my shoulder blood red today. Look at the recoil and how that knocked my shoulder back hah

I'll reiterate my advice from the thread you originally posted this in:

1. Don't pull both triggers at the same time. I have a nice arthritic lump on my RH trigger finger from doing so in my youth.
2. Don't shoot hard kicking guns while wearing smooth fabric shirts; nylon, rayon, poly, silk, etc.
3. You need to have solid rearward pressure into the pocket of the shoulder when firing, particularly if it has a hard buttplate.

You had that hard buttplate out on your arm. Try standing squarer to the target, it forces one to bring the gun into the pocket, that area in between the collarbone and the arm joint where the deltoid is thickest, and can absorb the recoil better. A slight lean forward from the hips helps, as does a slight bend to the knees, the left a bit more than the right.

Shooting from that position, even both barrels won't cause what you experienced in the video.

To your question: yes, absolutely

Most of what I shoot has Pachmayer. I have the P.A.S.T. and a couple of the slip-on, for guns I don't want to remove the factory butt plate.

What entropy said. Personally, I would go with the PAST or slip-on or BOTH.
Secondly, is the LoP too long for you?

I also recommend the shoulder worn pads. As mentioned, it allows you to keep the rifle stock yet not take a beating while working up loads and practicing. NO ONE feels recoil when the moment comes to actually make "the shot" out in the field. I wear one when working up loads in all my rifles especially my .300 and .338. Even makes 20 rounds of .280 much more enjoyable. Lets you go out in the heat wearing a light shirt too!

I have the Pachmayr Old English grind to fit pads on a couple of rifles and shotguns. I have a Limbsaver Prefit on a Remington 700. I’ve found that Prefits don’t always fit, depending on the make and model of the firearm. I’m happy with the Limbsaver and Pachmayr.

I have a PAST Recoil Pad and an EvoShield Recoil Shirt. I like the EvoShield much better than the PAST Pad.

Speaking of blasphemy, here is a Pachmayr Decelerator from a different rifle that I ground to fit this one. The Remington 141 had already been cut and had a cracked up red recoil pad on it so I replaced it with a better one.

I have put a Decelerator on a Marlin 444 that had the lackluster Marlin factory pad. That helped a lot with the severe 444 recoil.

I put a Kick Eze on a Remington 7600 Carbine because it also had a stock cut very short and the Kick Eze was the thickest I could find. Very soft but the material is odd and liked to clog the sander I was using.
