What CHARTER ARMS needs is an equivalent to the S&W Performance Center. If they just had the option of putting a smooth trigger on their guns, they would be a much better buy and a more useful gun. Their POLICE UNDERCOVER, the six shot .38 Special would make a great off duty or CCW gun if you could get it with a 3 inch barrel, rubber grips and a SMOOTH TRIGGER! It would be worth the extra money, in my opinion.
I think the looks of a gun are far less important than the performance. It worked for GLOCK!

Almost…but without a trigger job

It’s a bit of a pain, but after dry firing my Bulldog maybe 1000 times the trigger is much nicer. Not a substitute for just paying more, but I think I benefitted a bit from the practice too. Or maybe I just got used to it and the trigger didn’t change…

I only have a sample size of four out of the bazillion CA revolvers ever made, but mine all have okay triggers.

The trigger pulls aren't smooth, but they don't stack and they're not heavy.

Maybe I got lucky.

ZENDUE and THUNDERCHICKEN,

Sorry guys, but I disagree. If I am going to spend the money on a new gun, I want it MADE CORRECTLY to begin with. The trigger pulls on the current production CA revolvers are just not acceptable to me. That is why I would pay the extra money for a smooth, not light or stack free trigger, but smooth trigger.

I have a COLT Official Police that has a gritty trigger and it is just a safe queen for that reason. So I will pass on CHARTER ARMS, unless I find one with a decent trigger, which is too bad. I like the features and design overall.

Personally, I have never in my life found a handgun or rifle I considered "made correctly" always had to buy, polish, fiddle, or re-engineer something to make it right...IMHO

Paul R ZARTMAN,

It depends on the gun and what you want it for.

I have found a number of guns just perfect the way I bought them, though they may not have left the factory that way. On the other hand, I have left my BERETTA 92's, 96's, SIG 225, 226, 232's and 365 just the way I got them. Same for my SPRINGFIELD ARMORY XD9 Sub-Compact. They all work fine and do exactly what I want them to do.

I have had action jobs done on most of the revolvers that I bought new because many triggers were just not good enough, in my opinion. I have bought a number of used revolvers because of the smooth trigger, like my well used pair of S&W model 15 revolvers. Both were ex-prison guard guns and looked awful with their I.D. numbers scratched onto the sideplate, but they both shoot excellently and have very smooth triggers.
S&W generally does a good job, but not always as well as I would like.
RUGER trigger pulls are useable most of the time, but not what I want, with the exception of the MATCH revolvers. I have bought an sold a number of RUGER Security Six revolvers and all those I kept had good, smooth triggers, either from continued use or an action job done the previous owner. They may have come from the factory with a good trigger, but never bought a new one.
I have an old DAN WESSON and the trigger is smooth, but heavier than I like.
A COLT Official Police is a safe queen because of the action, yet the new COBRA'S, KING COBRA'S and PYTHON'S that I have handled are fine the way they are.

I am waiting on a Boomer .44 but without the porting and with a front sight. A 2” pencil barrel would be sweet. Any my CA Bulldogs trigger gets better all the time, break in and dry firing.

now I want a 7 shot 32 H&R “ Boxer “
That 32 boxer is a great idea. I’d like a 2.5” barrel.

the professional is too heavy and too lugged for 32 h and r

I’m the guy who wound up with a bucket full of Professionals that won’t hit anything.

Make sure you inspect a Charter well before buying it. Each Charter is different, not in a good way.

I’m thinking of having a gunsmith weld on a sight over the ports.

Is that possible?
