So i want both of these, but i can only afford one unfortunatly. I will also be making a 2 hour drive to get it. First one is a Pedersoli FlintLock .45cal, the other is a Pedersoli Howdah Hunter 20GA pistol. Interesting how its a considered a pistol.

One is $480, the Howdah is $725. I wish i could get both, but i can grab only 1. Im torn. Both are in store purchase only hense the drive i have to make, my local cabelas is a pretty poor store that never orders anything and has nothing in stock, so i generally have to drive 1-3 hours to get what i want which is fine lol....

I want the flint lock well because i dont have flintlock and id love to have one, plus i have 3 Percussion guns already, but that Howdah is really sexy, especially with the engraved Leopard and stuff on it. And who wouldnt want a black powder sawed off shotgun lol

My buddy has the Howdah.
Took it dove hunting. He was more successful in squirrel and rabbit.
It is a blast.

Only thing I would add to you dilemma
Buy one and put the other on LAYAWAY.

I’d recommend the flinter unless you have caps saved for years. The Howdah would be my pick if cap supply was not a concern. One blast of 20 gauge shot will solve most problems, and a .615 roundball or conical can sort out the exceptions.

LOL...how many people can say they have a Howdah? Very unique weapon.......you can always find a flinter, not so much with the Howdah.....it seems they go in and out of production.

I'd go with the Howdah, I just love the double lines and 20 Ga seems to be a nice fit for small game.

Well i got both... I couldnt justify the 4 hour drive.. I actually decided to go cmaping im in PA right now.. brough my gf... two 3 lbs t bones... beans.. corn... grilling in the woods right now... I got the howdah at first based on what you all said i agreed with it all... then 45 min later... im like you know what... im getting both. Since my cabelas in virginia never have them.

So i pulled the credit card out and got the flint lock... i usually hate using credit cards... but 500$ i can pay back..

Right now.. im chilling.. drinking beer... grilling... funny this camp site has open grills with no grates... .so im using my trailer hitch cargo thingy... haha

You are wise beyond your years grasshopper!

Haa thanks.. that was like a last minute camping decision... just told thr gf.. were going camping.. lets go.. packed things up and left.. haha

I wish i coulda stayed a few more days.. was fun. Cant wait to shoot these new guns i got though.

Pretty smart use of the hitch basket for a grill!
I've seen a guy use the ramp on his utility trailer previously.

Good idea grabbing on both.

I picked up a Traditions 50 cal flintlock pistol at a pawn shop in Branson. I still don't have the right diameter ball for it but it's a lot of fun with .454 diameter ball and a larger patch.

Fired both today. The howdah i couldnt find patchs for it locally. I took apart 10 shotgun lead shots number 6 bird shot... i made my own wads.

Didnt work too well.. it fired.. 4 times... hit the target at 10 yards out.. good pattern lol... but oddly 4 or 5 lead pellets hit my jeans and one hit my wirst ???? How the hell is that possible.

So i stopped using pellets.. and i bought .580 lead balls and used two .15 lubes oatchs.. because 20GA is 610 caliber. Worked great and 15 yards out oddly despite being short smoothbore.. was pretty damn accurate.

I shot 30 grains of 3fg.. but that was baby puny... i did 60 and that was pretty good.. i tried 90 grains.. just for the hell of it.. and 90 fired good too.. honestly not much recoil... but i worry ill hurt the gun at 90 so i might stick with 60ish grains for lead balls.

Fired thr flint lock as well using 440 balls and .15 patch.. for the flint lock bowel i used 3f as well as 3f for the barrel... i couldnt find 4f locally.. but it fired everytime on 3f in the bowel. The flint didnt have any issues firing.

I fired 30 grains then 45 grains. Then 60 8n the flint lock... all 3 seemed fine.. but 60 will probly kill the stock on the flint lock since it doesn't have a pin to hold it to the stock and uses a screw. So ill stick eith about 40 grains.

Love both !!!... had so much fun.. im going bsck tomorrow..

I even had a kid tidsy bout 15 year ild who immediatly saw the howdah and was like... omg a howdah... i have wanted one for years he said lol.. he wanted to buy it haha.

Thanks for the replies guys.. ill post back with videos if i go back tomorrow

Congrats on your new guns.
I’ve had one of the Flintlocks pistols for several years. I picked it up in a gun shop in PA while visiting a friend.
It was a kit gun that someone didn’t finish. It’s missing a couple of parts and I’ve never gotten around to finishing it. Maybe one day.

Have you tried 490 ?

You ain't gonna hurt the gun with 90 grains of powder, it may not be as accurate as it would be with 65 grains. Lee has a ball mold that works really well with 20 gauge stuff. Youshould bench both and find your best accuracy load and stick with it. As to the flinter, 3f in the pan works very well as you found out, I only use 4f in my pistols and my .36 squirrel gun.

Doesn't the underside of the hitch-n-haul get rusty since you burn off the paint?

If you're going to use shot in the Howdah, you will want to have it wrapped in a paper cartridge or foil, to help keep it a bit more dense, and 1/2" fiber wad to keep the shot square with the breech when firing. The Howdah was a lead ball or #4 buckshot pistol to stop the tiger you just shot and angered from getting to you. ;) Those pellets that hit your jeans and your wrist, bounced off a rock in the ground a few feet in front of you. The pistol is cylinder bore and that pattern can open quite wide in a very short distance.

No it didnt burn off the paint. I was worried about getting paint in the steaks. But it didnt. Id just repaint it with rust reformer if it did though. Have tons if thise cans as i soent 6 years restoring my Jeep Wagoneer

Ya i realize yesturday they were pellets bouncing off the wood or ground as the target was 7 yards out.

I have #5 shot. But no #4. Would 00 or 2 buckshot work ? So far im still using the .570 58 cal round balls and two .15 wads. Works out great and is pretty accurate at 10-15 yards.. beyond that i cant hit anything lol.

Was fun shooting it. I shot all my bp guns yesturday for 4 hours at the range. Both 1851 navy 44cal about 8 cylinders worth (4 each). And i shot that flintlock so much the powder on th3 bowl was getting tar like and i had to wipe the flint off. Maybe 20 times i fired it. The howdah i shot about 30 balls through it.. and my Hawkins sbout 15 times.

Just spent the last 3 hours today cleaning them... lol

Question the flintlock.. the trigger is WAY too strong. Its almost too hard to even pull it and throws off your aim. Anyway to go about fixing this or alleviate it ?
