I have a Beretta 85F and CZ83 in 380. So I have a couple of boxes of ammo in the safe. But I'm buying a S&W 380 EZ in anticipation of creeping physical difficulties and a very good price. (I'm having zero trouble now, but some day....maybe...some day...)

So I figured I'd need some more ammo to shoot. (More than I have now and I've enough self-defense ammo on hand, so I need range fodder).

Hokey Smokes, Bullwinkle. I haven't shopped for ammo in a long time (I'd stocked up) and now, it's like either not there or near a buck a bullet.

Wondering who's buying .380, from where, what they're paying, and if the source is reliable. I hate to buy from an unknown vendor. My usual source have some, but a lot of it is steel cased, which I've never shot. What the story of the Russian stuff? Any good? Does it do anything "bad" to the gun.

I guess I gotta unpack my reloading stuff and get mak'n bullets.

I recently bought Norma brass 380 from Ammoshoponline.com. I think it is 56 cent a round. It is really good ammo.

I have not priced .380 for a few years. I roll my own. I always thought it was dumb. That it was priced more than 9mm. Less brass, powder and lead/copper. So cost less to produce. But yet retail was always higher.

I usually get mine from Lucky Gunner instead of chasing deals. It's hovering somewhere near $.85/rd there. It used to be around $.35 before the lockdowns, but shot as high as $1.32/rd in March.

SGAmmo is a good place to start looking.

Optics Planet has some off and on.

J&G Sales is spendy.

For me, the local LGS shops have more ammo then the big box stores currently.

This is why I never store my reloading gear away.

Unfortunately, until things return to some kind of normalcy, reloading won't solve an individual's ammo shortage issues. Component shortage is on the same levels as ammunition shortages.

I recently found Winchester White box, 100 count for $53 using ammoseek.com. I won't buy or use any of the Russian offerings that are so abundant these days, but they are another option to look at if price is important to you.

380 for years compared to 9x19 mm is over priced. But Ammo on a day to day basis is becoming more available and weekly the pricing is changing for the good. Having just one caliber does have its advantages. While you do not mentioned whether you have other calibers if you are preparing for possible future troubles the 9x19 mm is the common round these days world wide. If 380 exclusively is what you are going to use, then reloading might be of value to you.

The real shortage these days are primers still. Any once those become available i will like a lot of people will buy a life time supply and enough powder. i do have a mold.

I was glad to have a few hundred rounds left over from one of the last shortage-buys when I got my LCP-MAX earlier this month. I can't go blowing through it like it's .22LR, but I was able to at least test the newbie with 150 rounds the first day.
I haven't started to look for more yet, though.

I got some from Callaway Ballistics a few days ago for .50/round, good quality TMJ brass case. Shipping costs took it up to ~.57/round by the time it was all done though.

Retfed: I got 6 boxes of 50 directly from Federal for $30.99 per box, about $.62 per bullet. American Eagle is decent enough, the price was in the ballpark, delivery isn't "next day" but suits my needs....so I did it. (And I can guarantee I won't be doing any rapid fire mag dumps....will savor each shot at 62 cents per.)

Prices are all over the place, I've seen it for as little as $36/ box of 50 and as high as $70. Thats for fmj mind you. Critical Defense is unobtainium right now

I suspect that this is because most .380 owners never shoot more than a couple hundred rounds through the entire life of their ownership of their guns. As a result, the manufacturers do not get the economies of scale that they do with 9mm.

Critical Defense I find at every store I visit at maximum profit level..........its 380FMJ that is impossible to find .

I see critical defense for 28 per box.

I only buy at at high of 28/50, anymore I think I'd balk.

I've got a line on 225 per 250 rounds. Seems steep but if you need a stock of ammo
..

I have a few hundred rounds of .380 but don't shoot my 911 a lot so it will last me a very long while. I only use the .380 in the house as my pajama gun and walks around the park in the evening. I have thought about picking up range brass, but gosh darn, that is so small I don't know if I want to reload it.

Herter's (made by Winchester) 380 95 grain FMJ. $23.50 out the door for a 50 round box. I bought 4 boxes today and I don't own a 380.
