Taurus TX-22 Competition. No longer "toy like" feeling.

Had my TX22 out today...put 150 down the pipe all trouble free with the exception of a few under powdered Winchester's that pfffft'd out of the barrel. Never been a big fan of Winchester 22 ammo...bought these cuz that's all that was available.

Hi, I was looking for answers on my issue with my Taurus TX22 Competition on FTF this Federal AutoMatch ammo. I have shot over 600 rounds and used all 3 mags. Everything I show in my picture shoots perfect EXCEPT the Federal AutoMatch. The bullet seems really loose in the casing on these ?? Note: I have thoroughly cleaned the gun and mags 3 times now, with the same result. I just thought that after reading this thread I would throw in my 2 cents.

Wow! You were able to run Standard Velocity through it, but not Automatch?

Thank you!

Mine actually started life out as a regular TX-22. I got the Competition slide and barrel later.

I took this pistol out to the range today and ran 80 rounds through it [Federal Automatch]. The first round was a stove pipe. Ejected the magazine and racked the spent casing out. Put the magazine back in....and it started running the rounds through it. Out of the 80 rounds, I still got a few FTE, and two where the extractor didn't pull the casing out, but most of them ran like normal. I'm going to assume the first range outing was due to it being new and this setup will require a bit of a break in period. And that's fine with me....I have a lot of Federal Automatch! I wonder if it has anything to do with that linear comp I put on? I didn't have it on the first range trip.

This gun is actually pretty fun. At 7 yards, I can just about get all the holes at least touching, which is about on par with my bull barrel Mark II target with some Volquartsen parts in it. I ran the last 10 rounds aiming at the 100 yard berm, and was pretty consistently hitting the lighter color dirt spot. It's probably about 8" or so. Not certain, but I was able to hit it.

So all in all, this range trip was much better. I didn't want to have to stick with CCI Minimags because I really don't have much of it. So....yay!

I also took mine to the range Saturday and ran about 300 rds of Aquila 38 gr hollow points and only have ONE FTF round, but no malfunctions. It is a fun gun to shoot ! Already have it cleaned and ready for the next trip. I will try the Federal Automatch again will report back.

Let me know how yours does with the Automatch.

I'm thinking what I have will just need breaking in. So far, I'm really liking the micro red dot setup. It's my first one.

Been waiting to see the competition upper kit available on Taurus's website, but it's never available. I looked at a couple of Competitions locally, but my TX is a Miami model as well, and the trigger break is a lot nicer than the one's I've looked at. I like the ODG frame, wish I could have found one of those back then. That said, the TX is my favorite .22 to shoot.

Yeah, I got a bit lucky on the ODG frame. It matches very well with my T/CR22. :)

The trigger on mine is really good....and I guess the evidence is having nearly touching holes at 7 yards. I think the extra weight of the competition upper helps a lot with that as well.

I've been pleased enough with mine. Easily accurate enough for plinking (which is what mine is used for) and so far 0 malfunction in the limited rounds put through it. I would estimate mine has seen less than 500 various rounds including Velocitors, Mini-mag and Aguila Interceptors.
My primary concern after my purchase was possible lead fouling of the barrel as I began encountering such reports on BBs such as THR.
Mine exhibited none of these issues and the bore has a mirror sheen to it, lacking any of the machine chattering as some have reported.

I picked mine up when they were introduced and had a rebate, It has been a winner from day one. I was lucking and didn't have barrel issues.
But these are $180 22 pistols expecting it to shoot and feel like a $5-600 is not reality. That being said it is one of the best all-around 22 pistols on the market IMHO.

Took the Competition out again today. Only was able to run 30 rounds though it, though, because someone with a large bore revolver took up spot next to mine, so I left. But as for those 30 rounds, I had no feeding or ejecting issues.

But now the TX22 runs $350 and the competition model about $500 new. But then again, what hasn't gone up this last year :(

Ok youall talked me into it I ordered a tx22 competition and have a new Bushnell rxs100 waiting for it.

Took mine to the range today. 100 more rounds of the Federal Automatch. Had a few failures to fully eject and also to chamber the next round. Most shots were good. Was shooting at 7 yards. Best 5 shot group had all holes touching.

I also tried the Federal Automatch....mine just won't chamber the round correctly with it. The Aguila super hollow point 38gr works just fine...I mean NEVER a jam. I have now been through 600 rounds and 3 cleanings. I do notice....if I only load 5-6 rounds in the 16 mag, it then shoots the automatch ok. When it fails to load, it always is the same issue. The nose of the bullet just starts to enter the chamber and then it jams and stays there. I just lock the slide back and remove mag and then if will fall out on its own. So its not like it gets into the chamber very far at all. I just use the Federal stuff in my revolver :)

That's interesting. My automatch failures have mostly been not enough backpressure to get the round out...but that is becoming less of an issue as I run more through it.
