Won this recently on GB. This thing is like new. Tight as a drum. Some scratches and normal carry wear but mechanically perfect my HKS ds speedloaders sure seem to work just fine. I think 10-A is the correct loader. Made a mistake and bought square magnas ( didn’t know it is round under there). I need to sell those and decide what stocks to use

Nice! That’s in much better shape than my AIM Surplus trade-in, you’ve got a great pick up!!

Mine is regulated well with 158 gr SWC and 148 gr target Wadcutters both, which is a bit weird for fixed sight revolver as most seem to like one particular load best.

I kept the Hogue gripper rubber grips that came in it, the only mod I’ve done is paint the front sight blaze orange with model paint.

When you get a chance to shoot it let us know how it shoots for you. :)

Stay safe.

I gave her a bath and painted the front sight blade blaze orange just like riomouse. What gets me is how the colt speedloader works! There is no comp 2 for the colt but folks said k frame ones would work. So there seems to be some interchangeability here. I’d “like” to go comp 1&2’s for all my guns someday

Those rubber grips look like the Uncle Mikes that my NY DOC trade in Model 10s came with. Certainly not pretty but they fit my hands very well and I like the Mikes. Your Model 64 may deserve a better look than my well worn Model 10s though. Lots of Magnas on ebay.

My model 67-1 likes 'em hot and heavy. 148gr wadcutters are awesome and 158+p are better than standard p 158 lrn. I ditched the magnas for Pachmayr grippers. At least the stainless and rubber combination isn't bad in my eyes. Much better than blued steel and rubber. I'm still struggling to come to terms with rubber grips on my model 28, but I just can't stand those factory grips.

Nice revolver!

I got one of those turn-in Model 64's recently, too. Mine is not nearly so pristine, but it wasn't shot a lot. It's solid mechanically and a good shooter. Model 10's and their derivatives are sturdy 38's. My daughter plans on claiming it soon. If she changes the springs a few times she can probably pass it down to her own daughter one day.

I coincidentally had a set of Herrett's target grips sitting around, but no extra K frame to fill them with. :)

As mentioned, the grips are "Uncle Mike's"
and have come standard on some Smith
models. They are excellent grips. Hang
onto them! They'll serve well if heavier
loads are used as opposed to the Magnas,
depending on one's hand size of course.

They quit making those Unkle Mikes grips a while ago, if they are in good shape, they are somewhat desirable and last I saw, were fetching a good buck on eBay.

I had a 64 that came with them, but they were pretty rough by the time they got to me.

I dont like the grips that cover the backstrap, as they screw with the trigger finger geometry, and a lot of the current S&W rubber grips, actually make felt recoil worse with heavy recoiling guns.

The Houge grips are usually what I go with if Im not using the Magnas and T grip I prefer (if youre going with Magnas youre probably going to want a T grip). They dont cover the backstrap, and your trigger finger is where its supposed to be. They might be somewhat ugly, but they are very comfortable to shoot with, and for me, the best "shooters" of all of them.

With the round butt guns, you have a choice with the Houges too. The RB to SB conversion grips deal with S&W's now RB only thing, and give you a good, full sized grip. I think S&W ditching the SB option was a mistake, especially for the longer barreled guns, but thats me. If you want something a little smaller and more compact, their "Bantam" versions work well too.

These uncle mikes are in excellent condition and you know they’ll shoot great. The fat rubber backside does mess with my first finger joint placement. I think the magnas will fit my hand perfectly! I need to take this thing out for a testing but schedule won’t allow it for at least couple weeks :(

Nice find. I was issued a 67 as my first sidearm back in 1987. A couple of years ago, I sourced a 67-1 (not sure if my issued one was a "1" or a "pre-dash") for old-time's sake. Haven't shot it yet, though. I was sure I had somewhere in my garage the old Pachmayrs I had installed, then removed from, my sidearm. I remember it being hard to shoot before I put them on. Still, I like the original, old-school look of the woods, and they might not come off at all.

These old Smiths are indeed hard to put down once in hand, loaded or not.

I got a set of what look to be those same diamond grips off eBay too a while back with the same problem. Don't know what the deal is with them, but they had a bunch listed, and from the looks of it, they still do. Did they cost you about $35? That's what most of the ones I saw were selling for, and what I paid.

Other than the fit, they were in pretty good shape. I removed what was needed from the back side at the top until I got them to fit. Worked out OK, but was a PITA.

I was just on there last night and bid on a couple more sets. Magnas, and most of the older S&W grips have gone crazy price wise. Seem to be recently, a lot of old trade in or maybe grips from demilled guns listed that vary from rough to very rough, and even those aren't all that cheap. Then you have the other end, where the nice ones are $80 to $100, even $200.

Looks great trackskippy! There are a bunch of em on eBay right now. I paid 11.00 for this pair and they look good. My intent was to refinish them. On a SW forum a guy mentioned maybe they were for a model 12? Maybe it’s thicker frame? I don’t know. I guess I’ll get the dremel out and go to work. Wish me luck

At $11 thats an even better deal. :)

Just take it easy when you do it. I always seem to tend to get carried away with the Dremel.

I used my pocket knife and a sanding block. I mic'd the offset in the frame and notched that point down on the grips until they were real close and just a tad fat, then carried that out towards the top, trying to keep it a little fat so there was a liitle there to work with, and then, using the sanding block to finish it off. Takes a little time and a lot of fitting/checking.

A good set of the older diamond grips seem to be even more valuable than the later Magnas. I think the new Magnas they are using currently just look cheap and crappy.

Hey, you needed a little gun project, right? Have fun doing it, and good luck.:)

Got after it with the dremel. It’s pretty much the only tool I have that would work. They could fit better but hey.. 11.00 dollars! It’s my carry piece so if they get banged up I’m cool with it. Maybe a nice set of altamont magnas for 60.00 for Christmas!! 553A4381-ADB5-43A3-A203-14359632CFDB.jpeg F8E3D3D0-34C0-4DD3-B1F3-FC009780100C.jpeg 88A87820-1561-4C03-8E98-46504C2CA206.jpeg

Ivory color! I want gold but ivory or black is only option. I’ve never felt a t grip. Would be cool! Heck you can’t be a real smith and Wesson guy with out a T grip!!

If youre going to use the Magna's, the T grip fills in that gap in front of the frame and makes for a more solid and comfortable grip in your hand.

The guy at BK has a good product, is good to deal with, and if he has what youre looking for in stock, he ships quick too.
