Ridiculous Ruger Revolver Prices

Part of the issue is something I browbeat out of my Ruger rep a couple months ago. Ruger bought Marlin, but all they got was an empty plant and nobody willing to work because of the unemployment buffs. Ruger transferred most of their skilled machinists to the Marlin plant to try and get it back up and running, and so gutted production of almost everything but their cheap little polymer 9 mils. Supply of Ruger wheelguns and even the Mark IVs is VERY low, and demand is driving the prices up. The other issue is crazy demand in the online sector for anything that can fire a bullet. Go to Gunbroker and look up H&R revolvers right now. I'm in the market for a little beater 632 for personal use and they're routinely bringing THREE TO FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS.

I shop the LGSs and pawn shops regularly, around here, and many models just haven't been staying on the shelves long.

IMO, it's supply and demand. People are snapping many Ruger models up, as soon as they hit the stores.

So, question…with all this discussion of these high prices Ruger has posted has anyone seen a factory new Ruger revolver lately?

I sure haven’t.

And don’t bring up Wranglers. They do not count in regards to my question.

Wow I don’t see what there is to complain about:thumbdown:
Air for model 19 and a 686 cost lessThen an SP101 piece of crap just buy a Smith and Wesson and Call it a blessing
Ruger some more just to break through class if you lock your keys in the truck and they are to shoot bullets accurately other than my red Hawk 44 I upgraded mine long ago
OMG the SP101 is unbearable:barf:

What sucks is the price of 357 Ammo
Not to mention 38 special if you care to shoot it
I can’t believe I gave away four boxes of 38 special a year and a half ago as part of a deal
I don’t know what the hell is up with 556 prices now that’s what’s really scary and who the hell bought up and then decided not to make Anymore 243 and 300 WinMag ammo
Now there’s something worth complaining about

Check Gunbroker, a lot of TALO's new
2.5-inch GP100 with fiber optic sights
along with a good number of GP-100
standard models, all offered as "brand
new." Some are featured with Ruger's
new black and red super tough gun
boxes

Going prices for "buy now" around $800
for standard GP100 4-inchers and $900
for TALO's snub models.

Didn't check in detail but ditto story for
Redhawks.

Like most models offered by manufacturers,
they seem to come in batches.

Nope. Only Wranglers, Rough Riders, J-frames, and a handful of Colts. No brand new large/ medium frame Smiths or Rugers in over a year.

However, I too am curious how Ruger's revolver competitors have kept their prices from noticeably increasing.

Maybe they already had their prices elevated enough to absorb any price increase or they already had contracts on raw materials and the next increase is down the road. Not everyone has to be like gas stations and Jack the price up on the consumer despite zero increase on the actual product sold.

At my store, a Ruger Master Dealer, we have unable to get Ruger revolvers since early spring of 2020 except the Wranglers. In the last six months, we have been able to order most of Ruger’s polymer semi-automatics including the Ruger 57, Ruger Max and the new Ruger LCP Max, but not a single GP100, SP101 or most of the SA revolvers. As far as S&W, we have not been able to obtain a S&W 500 for a customer who has wanted one for over a year.

Guess I'm glad I bought mine when I did---$549 std 2in SP101 .357---$719 std 4in GP100 stainless (and I thought I paid too much)--then added a traditional GP100 grip and fiber optic front sight for another $70 or so---$379 for a no-lock 642-----all were bought new in the 2018-2019 time frame.

I've seen new Ruger double action revolvers pop up sporadically and disappear as quick as noticed. SP, GP, and LCR models only. No Redhawks, or single actions.

Sadly, my salary and benefits haven’t kept up with the inflation calculator over the last 20 years.

I feel your pain. I make less money now than I did 20 years ago and when you throw in inflation I'm going backwards. It has darn near put a stop to the firearms hobby for me. If it wasn't for .22lr I probably wouldn't be able to get to the range.

The price development of Ruger revolvers is in line with the increased value of my humble shack. Already in the second post the reason behind it was revealed and I am afraid, we can expect it to not get any better.

My buddy just bought a new sp101 with 3” barrel from one of the local stores. I don’t know what he paid. It seems okay. We shot it some and it does okay.

He paid nearly $50 for a box of 38 specials. I think he paid the same for 357 magnum. Neither were SD rounds. He doesn’t really complain about the price either. I know he has paid $60 for a single box of 38 special when things were more crazy.

He thinks I’m crazy for paying $100 for a brick of primers when I had the chance.

I have read your post at least 6 times and I cannot for the life of me figure out what the heck you are saying. Maybe you should try proof reading your post before you submit them.

I have owned at least 5 SP-101 revolvers and still have one in the gun safe. They have all been excellent guns and have proven accuracy and reliability. And strong enough for any 357 load you are man enough to shoot out of them.

And that right there is why I reload and have a large stock of components. Ammo cost me almost nothing. I have had my supplies so long I don't even remember what I paid for them. I beat the drum to anyone who will listen about getting into reloading.

You can do it on a budget when things are normal. But I have no idea when normal will return if it ever does. I really feel bad for people who are having to pay crazy prices for ammo. If they can find it.

I ran in to one fellow at WM asking about 9mm ammo. They told him they no longer sell it. As he walked by I told him Academy had 9mm ammo the last time I was there. In a very stressed voice he said "when? I have been there 3 times and they didn't have any". And he walked away. I hope he has found some by now.

MSRPs mean little as opposed to what the actual selling price is. Ruger's MSRP's have been at or above S&W for years. This is nuttin' new. Yet, in most LGS' they sell for much less. I always figured it was a marketing ploy, i.e., our MSRP's show we are better than S&W, yet OTD, we are still cheaper.
