.32 Magnum and 100 gr LFN

Looking for a place to start. My book doesn't list loads for my 100 gr lead .313 flat nosed SNS bullets.

I want to use 700x powder. This is for a Ruger LCR .327.

I'm thinking 3.5 grs of 700x would be a good load to chrono and see how it goes.

I want them on the warm side as training load. I have a strong .32 S&W Long 90 gr load I use for training but I want something closer to my .32 Magnum carry load. (Which is a factory 100 gr load that chrono's 1050 fps from my snub)

Thoughts?
 
That seems like it’s a little much for such a fast powder. I use 3.0gr of Red Dot for the Meister’s 115gr cast FRN for the Single Six but that’s a really hot load. 700x and Bullseye are closer in the loading data. It’s a really small case so you might try seeing if Bullseye is listed then start at the minimum and Chrony it. Have you tried the mold/bullet manufacturing site yet?

If I recall 3.5 grs of 700x is max for 100 gr jacketed bullets. I was thinking a 100 gr lead bullet would be alright with the same.

Well, Brian Pearce in the linked article does list AA#2 in the 3.0-4.0gr. range for a 100gr. RimRock RNFP lead bullet so I guess it's not all that far off base. I use 3.5gr. of Red Dot with the Hornady 85gr. XTP for my wife's Taurus 731 in part to keep recoil down and in part because it has a ported barrel and Red Dot is less flamy (if that's a word?) than #2 or TiteGroup. The LCR's not ported so you don't have that concern. I have seen No.2 available recently from several sources.

RedDot and 700X are analogs. They are used for the same purpose (ie: skeet loads @1-1/8oz in 12ga), so are very similar. If 3.5gr of RedDot works, likely 700X will work.
I’ve used a good bit of RedDot. However, I’m still on my same 8oz can of 700X after 20+yrs...
 
Reporting back.

All CCI primers, strong crimp. 2 inch LCR .327. New Starline .32 mag cases. 100 gr SNS LFN. OAL just over spec.

I used 3.0 gr of 700x. 7 rounds gave an average of 849 fps and ES of 38 fps.
Plenty accurate.

Same bullet with 4.1 gr of CFE Pistol gave noticeably more recoil and an average of 881 fps. High of 920 fps. ES seems high at 83 fps. Also plenty accurate.

Maybe bumping up the CFE would lend more consistancy? But I really dont need more recoil from it. Hmm...

700x works well in the little 32s. I'm trying to find something that meters better with similar results. But haven't found it.
 
Hodgdon lists a 90 grain load with 700-x. That bullet is for Hornady's soft LSWC. Since in theory 90 grain would take a bit more powder than for your 100 gr, you should be able to use their minimum load for 90, which is 2.6 grain. Note though that 700-x is coarse for accurately measuring small charges consistently. My go-to powder is AA#5, and I use 100 grain lead. I have a mini charge bar to get a load volume that low.
 
About to try the 100 gr LFN-TC bullet again, this time with TiteGroup.

As before, no book data. I'm going to start with 3.0 grs.

An issue I have had with some loads over the years, sometimes a different powder helped, sometimes it just was what it was.

I am using N310, WST, or AA #2 for light .32 Long/.32 Mag loads, no reason 700X would not work great with lead or coated lead as well, it sure does in .38 Spl.

I'm sure it would.

I was just leaning towards Titegroup for easier metering.
