I’ve got an old Leupold RX-600i that I’m giving to my son, and I’m looking for a new one for myself. I like the idea of angle compensation for arrows, and of coarse illuminated reticles, which I currently have neither. I’ve been looking at the Athlon Midas because it has both of those, and a golf mode as well. Here are my top choices so far:

Maven r.f.1 =$400
Athlon 1 mile= $260
Vortex Razor 4000= $500
Leica CRF 2400R= $500
Sig Kilo 5k = $600
Leupold Rx-Fulldraw 4= $386

I haven’t called Doug at Cameraland yet, so these prices are probably a little high, but which would you choose and why? I probably would never shoot past 600-700 yards btw. And the bow hunting characteristics are most important to me. Thanks

Sig, Leica, nothing else.

I’ve been through several LRF’s, and am able to test drive a lot of different models at precision rifle matches, and frankly, the Leica and the Sig are the only two which get my money. I use a Sig 2200MR and a Leica CRF1600b. I’ve ranged buildings out to 3000 with the Sig, and targets out to 2000. I don’t recall ranging any game past 1200, but haven’t struggled to hit relevant terrain features to range deer, elk, or hogs to 1000-1200.

Angle compensation computational tech is 20 years old within these units, I’d expect a guy would have to try fairly hard to find a brand name model which doesn’t include angle compensation, other than the lowest of bargain bin models. It’s pretty difficult to screw up an inclinometer and one line of calculation block code.

You can do what you need with a less expensive Sig model - $300 instead of $600. The 5k is great, but to only shoot 600-700 yards, or even 1200 yards, you simply don’t need that much rangefinder, and $300 can go towards something else.

I can get the Kilo1600 BDX FOR $300. Is that bdx helpful without the matching scope?

Wanted a sig, but got a deal on the Athlon.

Im happy enough with the midas 1 mile. Its fast and accurate out to about 850-900yds on bushes and rocks. Couldnt hit my 10" plate at 820 (measured bush behind, then bush to target) tho.

Ill probably add a sig to my line up as well, but for now happy.

@HoosierHunter128 I bought the combo, the scope is meh unless you need the features. Mine was purchased for my 14 year old daughter who has no interest in ballistics but wants to hunt, and the sale price was good. Perhaps the Sierra6 has better glass, but the 3 Series is no clearer than any of my basic $200 scopes.

For the serious archer, the Leupold is hard to beat - IMHO. If you are interested enough to already know data points like peep to pins and peep to string and you like to shoot at loner distances ... it's worth it to have a dedicated unit. I love mine, but I don't use it for shooting with a rifle. I have tried Vortex and the Sig Kilo and both are very good. My main reason that I would choose the Kilo over the Sig is that in very low light the Vortex has given me some temporary night blindness as the red reticle is so bright (even when turned down to the lowest setting). No such issues with the Kilo. My .02
