Three Rifle Cartridges You Wish You Had?

22 K-Hornet (a single-shot would be fine) just for fun. I’d probably work up a cast bullet load for use on ground squirrels come spring.

257 Weatherby Magnum - in case I ever draw another antelope (pronghorn) tag. The truth is (as one or two of you already know) I was all set to buy myself a new 257 Weatherby early this past summer when our well crapped out. That little “inconvenience” cost my wife and me well (pun intended) over a half-dozen new 257 Weatherby rifles with scopes. Priorities.;)

38-55 Winchester (lever action) for a backup and/or close range deer rifle. I already have a 30-30, and my wife has a 32 Special that we use for those purposes. But I’ve always liked the 38-55, and it just seems “classier” to me

I'm not anxious to add cartridges in this market but .350L or 7.62x39 are really the only new cartridges I'm interested in adding. If I had to pick a 3rd, I'd look at .243 or .308.

What I'm willing to put money toward right now would be a Ruger America. Ranch in .357 and same in 9mm to go with other PCCs of the same cartridge.

Ruger #3 in 30-40 Krag. I’ll put #1 wood on it.
404 Jeffrey. The one hanging in Bill Ruger’s office is my first choice, but the CZ Magnum action will do nicely.
Hmmmm, not really set on a third one, except a 17 Mach IV on either a Sako Vixen, an old Browning small action, or an H&R Deluxe small action sporting. All the exact same actions. This to pair up with my Contender 14” Mach IV barrel.

Nothing really weird or hard to come by of course!

There's a few I'd like to get, not that I have a huge need.
  • 6mm ARC- Probably in an AR. I don't do much long range shooting anymore but I'd like to get back into it. 6mm ARC is low recoil and it fits in an AR15 without going up to an AR10.
  • .300 HAM'R- Also in an AR. It would be fun to mess around with and if it ran well it would be a great defensive rifle.
  • Tie- .300 Blackout AR/.375 Ruger. The two .300's would overlap a bit so there's some redundancy but I still kind of want one. The Blackout would be a good HD gun. The .375 Ruger would be nice if I decided to hunt black bear with my buddy and would be a good camp gun for big bears.

Only 3 cartridges, thats tough to narrow down, but 6.5x55 both in a modern shorter and original military configurations. Another m1 grand in 06 or an MBA 7.62x51, of courses each would need a modern shorter bolt action. A 280 Remington bolt action, because it's an almost perfect balance between 270 win and 3006 Springfield.

1: would be a 50-90 1874 sharps, because it’s a 50-90 1874 sharps

2: would be New England arms style single shot in 50 bmg, because I’ve always wanted one

3: Would be a Blaser R8 professional in 308, always wanted a straight pull hunting rifle

Wait, you dont currently have a .22!?!? :what:

Can those word exist in a sentence together? How.....how do you live? ;)
Believe it or not I currently do not have a 22lr rifle (gave my last 2 to family before I retired). I do have a 22lr S&W Victory pistol for little critters around the house.
So like @badkarmamib I think a Persision Ruger or Savage rifle in 22lr may be fun to have.

A 50-90 Sharps in one of the nicer Sharps rifles
A Benchrest rifle in 6PPC. Probably a Bat action, Krieger barrel, McMillan stock.
A 50 BMG, probably a Barrett. --------- Why not, everybody needs to be able to shoot into the next zip code!

.308 cuz I don’t have one
.357 lever cuz I shoot a ton of 38/357 in pistol
44 WCF to go with my 38-40
25-35 win cuz I don’t have one
275 HH to go with my .300 HH
22 Savage HP
300 Savage
250/3000 Savage
Better stop here I’m drooling on my screen!!!!!

I've always thought the .22 Hornet was cool, but I have no practical use for one.
Wouldn't mind a .44mag lever action to match the revolver. I'd take a 30-30 too though, and again have no practical need for either.
I've been itching for a M1 Garand, which means I'd need to start buying 30-06.

Well, sir, I never had much use for one...

I have owned 3 or 4 over the years, but didn't really enjoy them. My daughter has a Crickett, and my younger son has a Henry lever and a M&P15-22, but I prefer stuff I can tune loads for.

I think that's more than three:D I have the same problem so many neat cartridges!!!

I generally buy and try something if I want it, so I don’t have 3 left which I want but don’t have. The only one I can think of which I do not yet have and can’t/won’t just slap together to satisfy my itch, but is currently on my hit list is a 375 Cheytac, conceding that I simply don’t want to feed a 416 Barrett. I’d like to make a more serious effort in learning ELR competition in 2023, so I have some work ahead of me to get a rifle together.

The .50 BMG because it only takes one round to get that "Ooh WOW smile!"
The 30.06 someday I'd like to own a M1 Garand
And probably the 6.5 Grendel just to match up against my 6.5 Creedmoor to see which one shoots better.

Fixed stock flattop AR in 6.5 grendel with 24" fluted barrel, but only if it comes with 5 cases of ammo (looked at them in the past but concerns about long term availability of inexpensive ammunition kept me at bay). Absolutely no practical use for me except a range toy.

Safari grade m70 in either 9.3x62 or 458win. Probably not going to be a regular range item, just because if it was free would be quite happy to have one.

A plain vanilla 336 in 30-30, but ditch the buckhorns for a more reasonably profiled ramp rear sight. Needs a scabbard to match my current saddle and tack, too. My better half keeps hinting this may be a gift sometime in the future so I put off getting it myself.
