I run a 180 hotcore. It worked well last season without excessive damage. I sold on them.I'm sincerely curious..., why are you thinking of changing a successful load merely because you're going for whitetail? KS has some rather large whitetail to boot. I would think, but don't know, which is why I'm offering the question, that having found a 225 grain Nosler bullet loading that works well, that you'd simply keep that accurate load, as you haven't mentioned a need to mitigate recoil or any other factor than there not being Elk. I suppose having another load for a different bullet might be an advantage in lean times...,

Both that Hornady load and the federal fusion load produce some serious recoil in a single shot Whelen.I have a Whelen. Accubonds have been running darn close in price to partitions lately. If you are looking for low cost effective bullets for deer, I think the 200 gr interlock will suit you well. Hornady loads them to 2900 FPS in their Supurperformance ammo in 35 Whelen. You should be able to reproduce that in the mag.
Ruger M-77 in .358
A bolt action .358 win has always been on my want-to-have list
Will be interesting to find out how it shoots
I pretty much only use 225 and 250 grain NPs in my 673 Guide rifle in .350 Rem Mag. I usually use the 225 for deer and the 250 for elk, but I doubt there is much difference to the animal. I still have about 5 boxes of each and 500 pieces of brass. I stocked up years ago.
I have a 1.5-5x Vari-X III on it. I don’t think I have shot an elk farther away than 50 yards with it. I’ve had them DRT or run less than 20 yards. Never lost one.
Good luck with your load, whatever you end up with.
Looks good. You my friend are ready for deer season. That should be a deer Hammer!
The speer 180 flat nose works well on Whitetail in my Whelen.Dave,
I'd like to come up with a cheaper load to practice and hunt with if possible. I'll most likely just use the .350 to shoot a couple does anyway, keeping my .270 or .260s as my primary "buck" guns. The .350 is set up for timber, although I'm thinking of getting VX3HD 2.5-8x for it, in addition the the Swarovski. Practicing with and sending 225NPs through does is kind of a waste ($$). While the recoil in the M7 is manageable, the 200s would be nicer to shoot. Also as you pointed out, these days multiple loads with different bullets can be a blessing. I've done pretty well keeping a good stockage of my primary hunting bullets in .223, .260, .270, .308 and even 8mm (a lifetime worth if only checking zeros and hunting), but I've fallen short on the .358.

It is only going 2550. It wasn't a purposely reduced load.Interesting, are you down-loading them?? My understanding was they're designed for the 35Rem. Speer does list them for the .350 and it does look like a couple places have them in stock.
I tried them in my Whelen, but even downloaded to 2600 the meat loss was horrendous. I am now using either Hornady or core- locs they are pretty much interchangeable and both shoot to same POI.
