3D16B1BB-97C1-4486-B2A4-32DF813424F5.png My Favorite Rifle, above all else is a Savage 99 in 375 win. Its rare and was Unfired when I got it few years ago. Puts a Serious hurting on Corn Fed Big Bruiser Norther Bucks, I can tell ya firsthand knowledge. At 100 yards the Handload I use of 36gr RL7 and the Sierra 200gr can print a 1” or better Cloverleaf with the Leupold 1.5-5 I have in Qd Rings. Dovetail peep site for woods walking is plenty accurate and quick for fast shots. It’s a plenty for a lot of animals. My Brother has the Winchester XLR/as does my Dad, another Pal has a Savage like mine and a Buddy I know has the Marlin. I used to have a Contender with a 15”… Yet sold that. The 375 cal is my Preferred Caliber as well.

Anyone else Have a affinity for this beautiful beast of a cartridge? I know I cant be the only one… Speaking of- If I only had one Rifle, I’m almost certain this would be it.

Hunting/Handload/Firearm… 375 Win info requested.

My .375 is a 12" contender barrel. Actually, my barrel is chambered for the .375 Winchester Hybrid. This is a 30-30 case necked out to .375 in a long throat tight chamber. The barrel shoots MOA at 100 yards off the bench. I have taken a few deer with it, the farthest at about 85 yards, and every one has DRT.

When they were a bit more popular, we used to call the 375 Win “pumpkin thrower”

That expression about sums it up.

I’ve Got the Savage 99 in 375win and I picked up a Ruger #3 in 375win
The Ruger is best for real Hot Handloads- Adjustable trigger back then was available from factory. It’s nice just with open sites. I use 255 Barnes and If memory serves me correctly- 30gr of Rl7. That’s similar to a 38/55 load. Plenty of punch for a deer under 150yards, which is the norm or less in my area

One of my many missed opportunities! Buying a 375 Big Bore 94 when they came out!
How much money does a teen - twenty year old have ;)

Isn’t the 375 Win essentially a modernized 38-55? I had a chance to pick up a Ruger No. 3 in 375 Win, but passed because I don’t reload and don’t have a source locally for ammo.

Cool, I did not realize they made the 99 in .375. I bought a well used Big Bore 94 on our trip to Maine a few years ago. It has obviously been along for many a hunt over the years. I like to imagine it being used to take moose and black bear. Another rifle I have not yet blooded.

My brother ran across a Marlin in 375 a few years ago. They only made a few of those and only for 1 year IIRC.

Mr. Barrett died recently, but he ran a country store near here and also sold guns. He had a walk in vault with guns in boxes stacked to the ceiling. He had had this Marlin sitting in there un noticed for years before my brother found it. With the 1970's price tag still on it.

My brother kept it for a few years but since he didn't handload had a hard time finding ammo. When he found out what they were selling for he let it go at a nice profit.

my .375 is a .375 JDJ and kills deer right now.
