New Colt SAA?

I would like to get a real Colt too! interesting to hear what’s people review on it compare to a clone

The rumors I have heard is the more recent production examples are higher quality than 10-15 years ago.

Nickle Colt SAA Third Generation priced at around $2700.00. New Colt SAA Blued has an MSRP of $1795.00. Why is a used older one more than a new one? I don't have any idea.

I bought mine in 2014, 200 years after Sam Colt was born.

I didn't pay anything out of pocket for it (rewards points and birthday/holiday monies saved up over time). I believe it was about $1,300. I found it NIB on GunBroker. I'll dig up the thread on it and post it below.

First thing I did with it is print out the "This is a collector's firearm" page from the owners manual and shot it with the first six rounds.

It seems well built...I inspected it using a checklist I made that someone here (or another gun forum...can't remember which) posted on what to look for and check for revolvers.

It's gorgeous.

NICE! you shot the paperwork! love it

For my money, I go with a New Frontier in either .44 Special or .45 Colt. To me, its the SAA Perfected.

what do New Frontier run? I’m not impressed with Uberti. I bought a rifle and a SA 1873, took it apart and they are rough inside with burrs and metal shavings

Hmm. While i don't have a Colt SAA, I do have an Uberti/Taylor's 1873 "Old Randall". Action is as smooth or smoother than Colt SAA'a I've handled and no "shavings" anywhere. Perhaps you got a hold of the exception, not the rule. My Pietta 1873 "Gunfighter" is the same way. Not arguing here, just my observation.

I read that Taylor gets the extra treatment and cream of the Uberti crop. I got the Stoger …. oooh well, I like taking guns apart

I handled a Pietta and it was VERY GOOD and tight. Zero cylinder drag marks and $100 cheaper than Uberti

And he can buy my .44 special almost as new in NRA presentation box for $1400 if he wants. It shot like a rifle and is beautifully finished from the 70 s in Royal Blue. The adjustable sights are wonderful for actually zeroing and provide a hugely better sight picture.

I prefer the .357 Colt.

The middle one, not a good picture NO blueing or other wear at all on gun. @0+ years ago , after owning it for more than 10 years I decided to sight it in with a box of factory .22special ammo. It was then cleaned and put away. The Colt Flat tops are apparently able to digest very hot .44 special loads that the new "small" Ruger Vaquero is not good for. Indeed prototype .44 Mag Colts on the New Frontier frame were made in a couple hundred lot before the gun was discontinued. They recently sold a couple on Gun Broker . Mine is an a Windowed NRA Walnut fitted box with medallion. I have not been in a hurry to sell it, YET !

Why did I not get into SAA & SA cowboy guns a decade ago! my collection would be NICE!

Well made and actually available.
My opinion, they are what an SAA would like to be.
Perhaps only a FA97 is a finer shooting choice,
Thou the FA is more utilitarian.

I have read too many articles where owners claim that Colt chamber mouths are 0.458" for the Colt SAA. I would carry a 0.452" and 0.454" plug gauge and drop it down the cylinder of any Colt made 45 LC SAA. And if the 0.454 gauge has a lot of slop, I would walk away.

These are my Colt New Frontiers, all in either .44 Special or .45 Colt. I bought thise some time back and they ran between $1100 dnd $1400. Probably more than that now, but still just under the SAA that everybody seems to prefer. As for me, I think the New Frontier is the Peacemaker perfected.

very nice collection!

I’m going to get a Pietta 1873 next, cowboy the living daylights out of it and try to fix it.

Not going to Lie, once I get my Colt, I’m going to wear it OWB and shoot it with care, and carry a wiping rage. No Slip Hammering or spinning. I’ll probably shoot the “Colt Collector” paper too. Could be a new trend

I handed an 80 year old REAL working ( his 9500 acre ranch in California coastal hills ) 3 Rd generation COWBOY that .44 Colt New Frontier a couple years back and he said " nothing fits your Hand Like a Colt " as he sighted it he said " with that one you could hit a deer or a pig at 50 yards" .
Little known facts on the New Frontier is it was Colts premier SAA ( as it is inscribed on the barrell) as the Python was their premier DA revolver. And the Gold Cup's vaunted Ellison sight can be fitted on them instead of the Accro . The triggers and over all action are usually lighter on Frontiers with their slightly thicker top straps. But tyros want what they saw in movies.
