Very hard to pick, Ill get photos added later. My .50 Lyman Stalker is certainly my go to hunting gun along with it's companion .50 Plains pistol .
If I lived back in the Cap and ball era it Probably would be my Pedersoli 10Ga. sawed off double and my Brace of Colt 1860s Armys . With .75" balls the 10 gauge would handle the big bears around and Buck and bird shot for most anything else. The Brace of 1860 Armys would hold off hostiles very well especially combined with the shotgun . I think that would be a load out for a horse and rider. The 1860 Army Colt seem to me the refinement of open tops and are very reliable . I guess a couple 1858 Remmies would work the same , but I have a nice matched set of Colts. I could also shoot the .44 balls as buckshot in the 10 gauge if I had too :)

My Grand Dad bought this 1879 vintageTrapdoor rifle from Bannermans for $7.50 when he moved to Wyoming to homestead before the turn of the last century. He never saw any Indians, so he never fired it.
It languished in the saddle room in the barn for 47 years.
I found it when my Dad and I were snooping around in the abandoned buildings after my Grandparents moved to town.
That was 70 years ago. My Dad said I was too young to have a gun like that, and he put it in the back of a closet, where it remained for another 20 years.

When my folks retired and moved to town, I quit the WHP and returned to the ranch, I found it. It was in terrible shape. I obtained an unfired barrel and got a stock from
Rhinehart-Fajen and resurrected it.
I have taken Elk, Mule Deer, Antelope and numerous varmints.
Yeah, It's my favorite.

Muzzle Loaders?
Exact reproduction of the Medina Hawken.

Hawg, your high end English double rifles usually came with loading instructions - only one load would give you a group for both barrels. Maybe you just need to play with the charge a little bit. My buddy likes to use barrel rifle liners in 20ga SxS shotguns and plays around with loads and toothpicks before he Locktites the barrels in for good. Just a thought.

I don't have one favorite gun - it depends what I'm doing. Rifle matches or deer hunting then my 54 fullstock home made Hawkin. Tradegun Matches or bird hunting with shot or deer hunting with a 715 RB, then my home made 12ga New England Fouler. If I have a nice pop up for deer hunting then my home made 12ga Matchlock. Revolver matches - 1858 Remington. Single shot percussion or flint matches my home made pistols. Modern shotgun shooting, one of my Damascus barreled SxSs [ Parker, Remington, or Lefever ]. Then if I just want to sit around a little, my 31 cal 1858 Remington I just bought. I hate to use the term, but it looks cute. Fun to shoot.

PS: I got that picture on my AVATAR by some mysterious accident. I've never been able to post one here since.[/QUOTE]

It shoots good with shot. I don't shoot a lot of round balls out of shotguns. I was given a few to play around with but they're all gone.

AWESOME story of a family treasure. Kudos to you for resurrecting your grandfather's Trapdoor. What a wonderful rifle to be able to use!

Thank you so much for sharing that,
Bob

1800 Baker rifle. Wanted one so bad, ordered a Rifle Shoppe kit. Took me 8 months to finish. Drilling the correct angled holes into the lock and tang were white knuckle nerve wracking experiences. TRS cut all the dovetails, soldered the bayonet lug and built the lock for me. I also really like civil war carbines but thats a broad brush.

View attachment 1033585 As the title states… Also what is the Charge of powder, type of powder ….details.

I have a few.

My Encore pro is a straight up modern rifle In Muzzleloader clothes. Shoots excellent with Federal’s trophy copper mz Bore Loc and 777. A 3-9 Leupold provides the reach.

My Cva Electra Is modern and with the Bergera SS barrel it’s very accurate. Easy to carry and lite weight. Red dot assist with its easy to carry features.

Then, Well ….There is my Pedersoli Kodiak 58 double.
I was against a older design, as my Brother and Father always had with the Hawkins /Percussion and Flintlock. I liked modern and advanced technology that makes for easy reloading, Sight pictures, longer distance…. Blah blah. After seeing my brother shoot bullseyes at 80 yards with his Flintlock and hit empty shotgun hulls off fence post- I became a believer, just wanted something different. My First ever 8 shots at 50 yards - bullseye! All of them… and that was with 80grs of FF Goex (Luckily have a good amount) and a 280gr (Lee mold .562) PRB. It’s far more accurate than I expected.
That’s my Favorite, It’s a bit much for deer… Yet it’s Dear to me. So what’s your Favorite Smoke Stack ?

Must you keep torturing me with that???!!!
